What inspires you to write

What makes you want to write? Music, art, video games, women, men etc. Every writer has a center and every writer has a path to get to that center. I find that exersize helps me write (which I don't do enough of), or a nice long shower sparks imagination (Which I'm sure everyone's glad I do enough of!) or I find that center when I'm driving (Which I believe I do way too much of!). Maybe none of these things give you a spark, or maybe they all do. Just let me know, and as always, happy mylotting.

I love reading a lot and so I guess this inspires me to try some creative writing. I do write on a regular basis though as I keep journals. You write about your thoughts, your feelings about what's going on around you and that kind of stuff. I think that when you write, the writing itself is a kind of therap; it makes you feel good. I guess it also helps if you've had a varied kind of life and you do a lot of different things, then you have a lot that you can write about. Then again, if you are at the opposite end of the spectrum and don't know what to write, just put pen to paper and see what comes out of your mind!! Andrew

You are absolutely correct, Andrew, writing is a great form of therapy. I'll tell you this, if I didn't put a pen to a piece of paper I would have way too much to talk about. I think that a varied life with many interests can only help someone's writing, and in a deeper perspective, someone's outlook on the world. Thank you for the response, and good luck with your craft.

Thanks, the same for you! I'm actually doing some research online about online publishing and how some companies online are looking for writers and those that want to write. I hope that I'm able to produce some kind of creative writing. Have a brief look at the discussions I have written so far, two in particular - What would you write? and another piece on the world trade centre bombings. Thanks, Andrew

Reading has always inspired me to write. I also use to get inspired when I would go for walks or hikes, but now I live in a place where I don't get out and walk often nor is there really any place to hike. I always seem to get my best inspiration in the early mornings when everything is quiet and I still have the day to myself. My biggest problem is getting the inspiration out of my head and onto the paper. It seems I will write whole chapters to my novel or work out scenes or write a poem, but it never makes its way to the paper. I have been trying to recapture some of the writing habits I use to have, but for the past couple of years I have become so lax that I worry that my muse is going to pack her bag and move back to Idaho without me.

Reading usually sparks some creativity for me as well. My suggestion to you, perhaps if you are interested, is to get a minature tape recorder and record your thoughts on it. Then when you have some time hit the play button and write everything down in a timeline or web and work from there. It may not be the best way to go, but hopefully it helps to get the ideas down on paper.

That is a good idea, I hadn't thought of doing that. I have also started keeping a pad and pen handy. Even if nothing more than a couple words to remind me of the key point. Even that would be more than what I am achieving now. Thanks for the idea, I think I will take a look in ebay and see how expensive they are.

I just write what comes in my head. I do not need an inspiration except when I start putting words on the keyboard, they just come along. I do like to tell stories, and I am always thinking of what if, and sometimes in my dream, I see this image and it either has to start a story or is in it. Sometimes I see something when we are driving, sometimes I read something, so I have no idea what starts the writing frenzy. Yes my mind is going overtime with ideas, but for putting them on paper, some things are better left unwritten.
Especially here on myLot.

I know exactly what you mean. I try to get everything down on paper, but sometimes it seems like an impossibility. Right now I'm working more on film scripts instead of poetry or short stories. I find it easier to do because I already visualize all the situations that will happen in the story and I might as well make into a movie. Thanks for the response.

Hi friend!
I get to write whenever I get to experience something worth sharing or writing. I am also sparked by conversations that I had with people around me. The things I see gives me ideas to write about too.
Basically it depends on what's happening in my life. My everday routine inside the house and outside wherever I go. I guess I am a keen observer too.
Ciao!

Sometimes something will happen and I'll think, I could write a story about that. But the thing that gets my mind to working and motivates me to write is listening to good music. I have had some inspirations in the shower, also. I think you can escape from the world while listening to music and when in the shower. Maybe that's when your imagination kicks in.

Music is a must in my world. Without great composers, singers, musicians, and bands my existence would be incredibly dull and sad.
I have two little girls and their mother to block concentration, so the bathroom is like my own personal time out space. The shower is so tranquil and quiet. I think you're right about it being an escape from the world. Thank you for your intuitive response and happy showering.

That's awesome! I use to write a lot of poetry but I feel that it binds me sometimes. I think that it is great to release emotion, and expel creativity, but sometimes I like to play God with the lives of my charachters. When I want to prove a point about society, or love, or politics though, poetry is the right track for me. It sounds like you let yourself go with your work and I think that's the best way to keep balanced. If you don't work on something immediatly, I find anyway, it disapears and you can never find that train of thought again. Thank you for the response!

I'm inspire by art and TV (weirdly enough), as well as some music and books. Little kids and nature, as well as by events I go to. I write about politics, the environment, justice, and so on.

Art and telivision have always been a big part of my inspiration. When I want to write a script I always watch movies, the news, comedies, that sort of thing. I have two kids and they have always made me creative as well. Nature is one of the backbones of most authors work. Look at Henry David Thoreau, he was a master of utilizing his surroundings. Good luck on your writing and thank you for the response.

That's great that you are trying to do more physical to get inspiration. LOL showers do cause one to think don't they. I've done that as well. Driving for me gives me the best time to think. Nature really is inspirational to me. I also write about life and people. Things I note, and experience. Things others share and have experienced. I really try to understand the other's perspective when I write about people.

Nature is amazing! I find that if I am near a large body of water such as a lake or especially the ocean, ideas just come to me naturally. I get a lot of ideas about charachters and life situations from watching people and talking to people. I think great writers feed off the manuerisms of other members in society. I still think that the music/driving combo is the best though. Thanks for the response.

Most of the time my inspiration comes from the most unexpected places, it could be something my girlfriend says, a quote, or even a political / religious view point. I take these things and incorporate them into my writing; in doing so, I can state my point of view (under guise of a story) without fearing criticism and/or looking stupid
