I know that myspace is a really well known site. I also know from experience that it's addicting. Yet, the way I heard about it was on the news and on the radios where they were talking about internet preditors. What do YOU feel about myspace? Are you a member?

i am a member and my profile is www.myspace.com/oothatsjustlifeoo
i feel myspace is a great way for young and older people to meet the oposite gender which is the main reason most people use it, i just dislike the fact that my fiancé seems to get loads of guys adding her and it just gets on my nerves and causes arguments through all the comment flirting.

I have a myspace and I think it's a pretty good website. If u take the right precautions like make ur profile private and don't accept anyone u don't kno then it's not that dangerous.

I joined because my 15 yr old daughter has one and I wanted to be a part of her online world as well as in actual life, she knows it's me and accepted me, o no, I'm not spying on her. As for myspace in general, it reminds me of a three ring pervert circus, I don't trust it as far as I could throw it.

My daughter has a Myspace account. I have one as well but don't use it as often as she does. I do use Gather.com which is great if you love to write. I have earned 2 $25 gift cards from Barnes and Nobles in less than 2 months. Great site.

That's cool. I love to write myself so I will have to check it out. I guess in this case - how do you feel about your daughter having a myspace account? Does it bother you?

I respect your response. Yet, when you're on the website you definitely need to watch out for who you add or who you become friends with. Me, I only add people I know (for the most part) and furthermore, I have my profile set to private. It's just a wonderful way to keep up-to-date with friends and family who aren't in your homestate.

Im a member on myspace. My high school friends told me about it. I only used it to keep in touch with my friends from high school and college. My youngest brother in law told me that there are lot of crazy people out there so I should take my daughter's pictures out from my page. But if you look at outside, there are lot of people crazy too, so I havent took the pictures yet. My husband got account too and he got our daughter's pictures too.

Well, I see several myspace accounts that have pictures of a person's children. If I had children I would probably have them on there as well. Yes, there are crazy people out there in everyday life and on the internet. People in everyday life see your daughter, so what's the difference is myspacers she her? Honestly, what would that do to a person if they saw her picture, I personally don't see a problem with it.

Myspace is a good site, there are some security things to it, but it is easy for preditors, but so are other sites. I don't think any site could be perfectly safe for anyone.

You're right. It's all dependent on how much information the user puts out there for viewers. They should definitely not put out personal information. And, in cases as myspace, if they choose to do so, their profile should be put on private so no one but friends can view it.

I love myspace, me and my fiance both have an account. He has female friends and I have male friends. But it does not bother us. We trust each other and we both know the other don't want anyone else. People flirt but there is not harm in that. I have found a lot of my friends from school on there. I even found my best friend that I had lost touch with.

Well, a good trustworthy relationship is the best relationship I say. I too have found friends I lost touch with. That's the good thing about myspace. Do you use anything besides myspace to keep in touch with high school buddies?

I am NOT a member but both my kids are. They are 15 and 13. I have an internet tracking program though, Eblaster and I can see every single thing they do on the web. I can even see their passwords. I think Myspace is very dangerous for teenagers who are sporadic and irresponsible. I would suggest that tracking program if you have kids who surf the net though.
It is wonderful!

Thank you for your response. I agree that the tracking program is really good and all, but I wonder if your kids know about you doing this? I'm just curious if they throw fits about it. Don't you think that's invasion of privacy? I'm not knocking you down by any means, I completely agree that having children in a home with internet and putting a tracking program is a wonderful Idea!

I, as per my usual attitude, fought it. I've never liked anything or anyone when it was the "going thing". I am not like other people and I don't want to be just one of the crowd. So, recently my daughter got a myspace account and wanted to take me to her page and show it to me. I thought that would work for the one time, but how would I keep up with what she had on her page and who her friends were and what she was doing and saying in her blogs? So, just to keep tabs on her, I started a myspace page. At first I was like a fish out of water, but with some help from my first myspace friend (you) and my daughter, I managed to make a nice profile page. Next I went about finding friends to add. My neice, nephew and cousins kid, so I could send them cute little comments and stuff and thusly grow closer to them. I liked being able to read their blogs too, I really feel I have gotten to know them better. Anyhow, I have reunited with some old friends and made some new ones too and I love it. Best of all, when a friend wants me to email them pics, I just send them the link to my myspace page and save myself a lot of attaching time! While they are there looking at my pics, they can find out a lot of stuff about me and get to know me more too! I love being able to send a bulletin to all my friends at once. I sent one about this site with my referral link and I have 5 friends on here referred by me now and tomorrow it will be six as I have one more joining!

See, myspace isn't so bad afterall. It's really fun. I liked your story about being closer with your family through myspace. Actually, I have a cousin that I've never met only when she was a baby baby and my uncle was seeing her mom. I was on her brother's site who I keep tabs with because he lived with his father and mother when they were married. Anyways, to get to the point, he had his sister (the cousin I've never met) on his site. I sent her a message stating, you know, you don't know me really but I am your cousin and the last time I saw you you were just a baby. So, we've started talking, and it's wonderful.:) Glad it could work out for you too.

I have used myspace a lot. I just recently deleted my account though. I met my soulmate on their and a few great friends and I have managed to regain contact since high school, but now that I speak to everyone via messenger or email, I have no need for myspace any longer. I do feel that some people take advantage of the blogs and abuse other members illegally. But Karma will turn around and bite them right back in the but ;)

I've been a member of myspace since Sep of 03. I've never had any problems with it, and think that's it is a shame everybody is focusing on myspace for the preditors when they can come from anywhere, yet everybody tends too focus on one site alone. I also have gather.com and bebo.com all are very addicting.

I have a young teen and I pulled her account. Although I allowed it with rules, those rules were broken (public -v- private). The friends she attracted were mostly nice, but the few who were not were terrible. I began to see her addiction and the danger behind it. I believe it is an adult form of entertainment and our children are being sold a bill of goods. Parents really need to be aware of where their children are, including where they are online.

Good for you. I agree, parents need to watch what their children are doing or their child could be a victim.

Same with like Yahoo messanger. I know when I first signed up for Yahoo I had to lie about my age to get an account. But when people asked I was honest and told my real age and that the fake age was just to get onto yahoo.

I am a member at I think it is really neat. All your friends are on it, you can blog, there are groups. I just think it is really neat. I'm sure that there are predators out there but there are predators everywhere you go.

That's what I love most about myspace is the fact that I was able to catch up with old high school friends that I lost track of. It's great!

Yep, I've been a member since September 2004. I heard about it through a forum I used to post on. MySpace wasn't talked about as much back then, so preditors weren't really a concern of mine at the time. Of course, I'm always careful about what I post and who I talk to.
The members I'm most concerned about are those who are underage. Especially the ones who lie in their profiles about their age. They are the ones who are most at risk. The sad part is that a lot of them probably don't even realize it.
As much of a threat MySpace can be at times, I also believe it is a helpful tool as well. A guy I know of's girlfriend was abducted last year, and within hours there were TONS of bulletins posted describing her and the details of the situation. Although, the outcome was quite horrific (her body was found later). It's good that MySpace was there to get the word out about her disappearance, so that if anyone did have any information it could have been used to help save her.
For anyone interested, my profile is: www.myspace.com/__suchasucker

Wow that's too bad about the girl. You are right, myspace is so well known that you can post a bulletin and all your friends see it. I added a myspacer about finding abducted children and finding criminals. There's alwyas new bulletins from them and for the most part if it's someone from where I'm from I repost it too. They've found many people this way. It's like America's Most Wanted on myspace.
