Is Japan an ally of the United States?

I guess we are since we trade with them. (mangas from Japan are sold in the US for ex.)We also have "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow" But are we allies with Japan? I just wanted to know for sure. Thanks

I think the answer is YES.
If you can see, there are US army base in Okinawa Japan. In fact three quarter of Okinawa land is occupied for the camp.
Japanese youngsters like US very much. KFC, Mc.D and all American junk food are very popular in japan. Japanese like American Football too....

Well, US props up the Japanese economy, allowing them to run heavily protectionist anti-free trade policies, as US itself does. In return they get a military base on Japanese soil, an important strategic site.
