Do you turn down the radio when looking for an address while driving?

I do, and I don’t know why, I love my music loud but when I’m trying to read my little map printout I turn down the radio or sometimes I turn it off. I also pay no attention to street signs, I guess I’m too focused to find my destination. Are there any others out there like me, lets unite.

Yep! Absolutely turn down the radio and if it is a big city all children must be very very quiet! Noise interferes with the brains ability to process information! Ok well my brain anyway, lol.

If I'm listening to music or an audio book, I will turn it off to look for signs or read the map. I am already spliting my attention between driving and the radio, I can't split it to also looking for signs and directions. Audio imput tends to take the priority in my brain. Even the roomie stops talking when I'm looking for some place, except to like count streets for me - she can't see street signs.

Dear friend,
Until I am talking to another person or if my radio becomes disturbance to others I do not turn off it. I really enjoy driving while listening to radio and also I love driving and listening to songs in radio. Reading any may not make me to turn of radio . May be I would just lower the volume.

Hello gitfiddleplayer.
I do also turn down the radio in my car when I'm trying to locate a particular address. I think I can concentrate better if the radio is not playing. And that I can pay better attention to what I'm doing. So, yes, I do that, too.

I do. If I'm in an environment where I'm trying to focus on several things at once, I don't want the added distraction.
On the open road, though, turn it up!

I couldn’t concentrate on what I’m doing if the music of the radio keeping on playing aloud when I’m looking for an address during my driving. It would make me to feel irritating during this very moment so definitely I would turn down the radio so it won’t distract the attention. Most of the time I would even to have a pause at the roadside so that I could engross totally on the map and I’m afraid I would miss the address as well if keep on driving.
posting and take care.

I'm with you gitfiddleplayer! If I am reading a map in the car looking for directions and the radio is on (which it usually is), I have to either turn it down real low, or even turn it off, as I cannot concentrate when it's on, whether it's music or talking.
However, I DO look at the street signs (not like you), as they help me - along with the map - to find my destination!

I never really paid attention to whether I do that or not. I will have to try and remember to notice next time I am looking for an address. I could see why people would do it if they have trouble concentrating on a bunch of things at once.

Nothing....nothing at all.
I am sure I have done it a few times before too. Sometimes you just have to clear your head out. My brother likes to crank the radio in his car up and not talk to anyone when he is driving in the city because he gets freaked out otherwise. Some people need quite to concentrate and others require noise.

I do not actually drive, but my hubby does this. He either turns it down or turns it off. I guess like you it helps him to focus on where he is going, other than that he has it quite loud which I do not mind as we both have a similar taste in music, which is always a good thing!

Yes, I do this, because I am easily distracted and think better without noise, so if I don't know where I'm going and need to look for the address, I have to turn the music down. And whoever is in the car with me had better shut up, as well! LOL

I am the same. I drive with loud music on, but when I start loosing my direction...opppps radio off.
Probably it's because when driving, I tend to relax quite a lot, but when it gets down to having had to "think", that's another story.
I remember the movie "Taxi" when she said not to think while driving.
I think our reflexes works best when we actually put them to work. I've had several instances that just proves that our natural reflexes are our best armour over unexpected events.

When I drove yes when going in to traffic or looking for an address I turn down the radio so I can concentrate on what I am doing without the interruption of the radio.

I'm one of those people who thing of 30 things at one time so yes. I have to have absolute peace and quiet while i'm reading something. Sometimes I even have to read it out loud really loud to hear what i'm reading over my other thoughts. My thoughts are so loud when i'm trying to focus it seems that i'll never be able to. Yah I definitely have to focus.
