Cops are popping speeders in school zones left and right

August 29, 2008 School is back in session and so is the radar gun. I live on this desolate road and I’ve never seen a cop even though the police station is just down the way. As soon as school started up again those cops were busy handing out tickets to speeders. Please slow down and respect the yellow sign or you’ll be respecting the black and white.

The one time I am glad to see the boys in blue! I met a man in college whose son had been killed at the bus stop by a speeder. ( I think the guy was drunk too) That is a pain I would not want to live with.

That's the truth! Some of them have to get to their second jobs.

It is rather dangerous with those children around. If those speeders do not slow down then some child is going to be hurt. Your school starts rather early. Ours used to start before Labor Day and then, well too late for my sons who are already on their own, the school started after Labor Day. So before we could not go for a labor day weekend because we had to go with the boys to school to get their stuff. Maybe you should talk to your school board about changing the first day of school.

Actually we home school our little sponges, but I've noticed an increase in police awareness since public school started up again.

good for them, that's what they should be doing. that's what they are getting paid for. anybody speeding in a school zone is a moron in my opinion.

So where have all the cops gone in you place during those times? Well, I'm glad to see cops actively doing their duties on the road. There are lots of undisciplined drivers out there and it really takes good law enforcers to discipline them. I love seeing cops watching the school zones against speeders. They really have to protect the crossing students from abusive speeders. I have always hated speeders doing their thing on the wrong roads, I don't understand why they have to speed up when there are lives that they are putting at risk. My husband never do that, he has always been careful with driving and I can't remember any single road accident he figured into since the day we acquired our first car. That was almost twenty-two years ago. I really thank God for it.

I don't know where the cops are? We live in a tourist town so unless something is going on they are probably just sitting at the station.

Yes, that's the way cops can curb the accidents by grabbing and teaching students to follow rules..

Well, that is a good thing... cops should really prioritize handing out tickets to speeders near the school zone... in the past... i was able to witness a student getting hit because the stupid driver did not bother to slow down while kids were crossing the street... good thing when the cops started hanging out near the school... motorists became more careful...

I wish more people would respect the yellow signs even when our children are not in school, as it is good practice.

Exactly!! When I was in high school it was cop heaven. They used to hang out on the back roads where everyone used to speed. Some guys got in some serious trouble a few years ago when they were drag racing and blew up one of the cars' engines. So yeah so it down and no racing!

Those areas are speed traps as you can easily speed over the limit.

Hi Gitfiddleplayer, There are so many children near to schools that people should slow down or not even use there cars at all. I always walk to school with my son but what annoys me are the parents (ok some have to as they live a distance away fine) who drive their children to school and just stop in the entrance or on double yellows and bends making it very difficult to cross or for other traffic to safely see or block drives, they don't seem to be able to walk more that a few yards. We do have a policeman now patrolling to make sure they don't. Yes well said, respect the speed and you'll avoid the black and whites. Ellie :D

Yeah I know my friend school is back in session and the cops are out like crazy as they are trying to protect the safety of the school children especially since most people will speed through school zones during the summer, and they need to learn that school zones are school zones no matter what time of year it is,and maybe when a bunch of motorists get speeding tickets than it will teach others to slow down and respect the school zones and school buses.

gitfiddleplayer good for them where you live. here in Californoia the police do not watch around the schools close enought and there have been a number of crossing guards hit and injured by idiot drivers who just could not wait a few minutes. They were prosecuted after the fact. I am just glad I am no longer a parent with small kids to worry about in crossing the streets near the schools. I feel for the kids and their parents as school should not be a dangerous place to cross the street for the kids. shame on our Ca cops they are not watchful enough.
