Do you still turn the subtitles on even if the movie is in English?

I have to admit that I like turning the subtitles on even if the movies are in English because I understand the story more in that way.
English is not my native tongue and most of the time actors in the movie speak in slang than I don't understand them very much. And at times they use some words I don't really know. So it really helps me when the subtitles are on.
Do you still turn the subtitles on even if the movie is in English?

If it has features like that, I would probably turn it on but, some people don't want to. There was this one time during a Shakespeare class during college that our professor simply didn't like watching a play/film while the captions were on. Stressing on listening as well as associating the dialogues with the performance of the actors.
If the film I'm watching doesn't really have that much 'slang' in it, I wouldn't utilize the subtitle features, and some films that I get to watch have weird subtitling..

I don't think the captions are distracting while watching a movie.
For me it helps to better understand the movie. I still can see
the actions and emotions even while looking at the subtitles.
But when the subtitles are not accurate, that would really
distract me from watching.

I do turn them on!
even though english is my first language I turn them on because sometimes they speak so quietly that I don't hear what they are saying. I don't like to miss anything the first time around... so this really helps me catch everything =]

It really helps when the subtitles are on when the actors are
only whispering or they are in a crowded place wherein you
can't here what they are saying.
Also, when say things that might sound like another thing, it
is good to have the subtitles.
Like you, I don't like missing anything too.
Have a nice day!

Only sometimes, when for some reason or another I cannot understand them or they are too quiet. The movie Rescue Dawn was one I had to turn the subtitles on because all of the actors seemed to be mumbling.

It is good to turn on the subtitles as my husband would usually do the settings for the movies. If the movie is an original one the english subtitles are okay. If the movie is a pirated one he would sometimes turn it off because the pirated movies' subtitles sucks - its just irritatingly inaccurate.

I do not use the subtitles a lot if I am watching a movie in English but sometimes it helps to have them on even though I can understand what they are saying,I do not know why but it is sometimes easier to get a grasp of what is going on if I can hear them speaking and also see the subtitles of what they are saying, and besides the subtitles help me keep up if I am on the phone or something and can not pay complete attention to them speaking.

It really can improve English and the way of speaking.
I like turning the subtitles on especially for detective
stories when all is so secret and the only clues that
the movie gives is through the conversation. So it really
helps me understand the movie.

I'm so sorry for coming in so late. However, sometimes I also like to read subtitles for the same reasons, mentioned by you. But not always.

English isn't my first language but I guess it is the second
one. Subtitles really help improving my English especially
when the actors are saying words that are unknown to me. '
And also, it helps when they are discussing something technical.
Have a nice day!

No, but English is my native language. Maybe if I were learning still I might, but since I am fluent I don't.

Yes I do turn it on. As you said in your post I don't know english either. As english is not my mother language I get less scopes for practicing english. Though I am not that dump not to understand what they are saying. Still I don't want to miss a thing. Moreover it helps me to know its spelling, it helps me to improve my word-stroke. Sometime the actor or actress used to through the speech so quietly that it is relly hard to understand what are they saying. Sometimes the native speakers stumbles to understand their whispering speech.

I am also asian, specifically Filipino. I assume you are a Filipino
too because of your username.
I also would rather have the subtitles on because there are some
words that are said differently in some places. I mean the
intonation and the diction.
Have a nice day!

Yes, I turn on the English subtitles even if the movie is English. The main reason is because, I can watch the movie with low volume if I have subtitles, or I can watch movies in my laptop even if I am not using a headset. The sound of my laptop is not good, so I always have to wear headset when watching something. If I have subtitles, then I won't have any more problems with it. I even download subtitles if the movie does not have one.

Though English is my native tongue I do like to have the subtitles on during some movies. Some movies it is impossible to hear just what is being said especially if there is some back ground noise in the movie. Sometimes it is just easier to keep up with what is being said with the subtitles turned on.

I like to use the subtitle feature even if the movie is in English. There are some words that I sometimes don't know and it is good to know the spelling. The only problem with using the subtitles is that you sometimes miss the details of the scene because you are to busy reading the subtitles
