What sounds would you want to hear?

I saw a piece on television the other day about a young lady who needed to have surgery for a tumor - the placement of the tumor meant that after the surgery, she would not be able to hear. She spent the next 30 days before her surgery hearing all the things that were important to her to remember.
What sounds would you want to hear if you knew you were going to loose your hearing in 30 days?
We live in a rural area where, at times in the evenings, it is absolute quiet and I enjoy those times, but I can't imagine what it would be like never to hear another sound. I would want to hear the grandchildren playing and the baby cooing - the voices of all my loved ones - there would be just so many things!

O' gosh, there's so many things I'd have to hear! My husband and son's laughter and their "I Love You's", my family's voices, my nieces giggling, the sound of rain trickling down the windows, thunder crashing, the waves crashing onto the shore, the wind brushing through the trees, the sound of turning a page in a book, many of my favorite songs, the piano, my husband playing guitar...and so many more!

She video taped many things and said that she hoped that the images in the video tape would help her imagine the sounds that went with them. They did say that the doctors think that they may be able to do a cochlear implant so that she can have some hearing, but there's no guarantees.

I really do hope they can do the implant for her. Even a little bit of sound would be better than absolutely nothing at all. I honestly can't imagine only having 30 days to cram all the lovely sounds from life into my memory. I think the videotapes will help a great deal. Visuals always help us remember things more clearly.

I wonder if in time, you would see the looks on their faces and associate that with the sound you used to hear when they laughed.

Wow what a sacrifice this poor woman has to make in order to save her life. I would want to hear the laughter of children, the crickets and frogs in my backyard during a summers night, my mothers voice telling me one more time that she loves me, the mewling of a new born kitten and the sounds of downtown traffic and hustle and bustle, there are so many things to listen too that it seems like the list would be endless... it honestly makes you more grateful for the sense that i do have at this moment in time, because just like life, you never know when it might be gone!

I can't imagine never hearing the grandbabies cooing, and the toddlers and the way they talk and say things. I love to hear my youngest son play his guitar or the piano - I miss that now that he is away at college - I can't imagine never being able to hear it again.
