I have lupus and got ITP as my bodys response to having a baby. I have had it since January 2006 and had my spleen removed in the hopes of helping but all it did was take my platelets from 21 to 30. I'm very sorry you are in the ITP boat what is your count at? And what are they using as a treatment for you? They have tried the gamma globuli w/me but I had a bad reaction and it barely raised my count and the dose of prednisone needed to make a difference for me made me crazy. Just wondering if they have something they are doing for you that can be tried for me.

while i was at the hospital, i had platelet transfusion but it didn't do any good. the platelet rose from 29T to 53T an hour after the transfusion but 5-6 hours later it dropped gain to 30T. my hematologist also prescribed me with prednisone both the injectable which they pass through IV and the other one in tablet form. i stayed in the hospital for a week and was admitted again the week after because i had fever and still my platelet count was very low. before i went out of the hospital, i had a bone marrow exam and thankfully the result was very positive.
now, my platelet count is back to normal. i haven't been taking any medicine since after the hospital. although i still like to continue monitoring my platelet count as much as possible, we can never be too confident about our health especially after having diagnosed with ITP. you could go online and meet other people around the world who shares the same health concerns as ours. Visit www.pdsa.org PDSA means Platelet Disorder Support Association.

First of all, i' so sorry to hear that. ITP is a disorder that have no known cause. Some people believe it's genetic. I don't have it, so far.

Yeah, i read somewhere that research are made to trace ITP occurence to genetics. Nevertheless, I have been feeling well eversince weeks after i got discharged of the hospital. Thank God!
Thanks for the response davipiero. Have a nice day!
