I ahve never seen a cat give birth before and so it was quite a shock to attend my momma cats birth the other day. She pretty much likes the male of the house more than me any day but on this day she chose me to help :) She had one kitten half way out when she got up, walked over to me , laid down on my knee and proceeded to birth the baby! It was a girl and attached still by a cord going to momma. Next came out number two and then the placenta. Momma couldnt get the sack open so I took a towel and gently broke it and he started breathing...again I am in total awe here. Number three decided that she needed no help at all and popped right out and put her face towards mine and meowed and then her placenta comes...now I dont even have to say I hope that all three of my babies are staying with me forever after all of this :)
In any case, I was wondering since there were only two placentas and three babies and the fact that two of them were connectd by that one cord, are they twins?
PS I stayed there with her all day until she started to clean herself and she did just fine :) Momma and her two girls and her son are just fine and bringing us a lot of joy!!

I would say yes...That is so sweet that she came to you for help and her babies are doing well...I've never seen a birthing by a cat either but from what you describe...I do believe they are twins...that is sweet...

Yes it was :0 I cannot begin to describe how special it was, especially opening that sac. I have watched 3 humans being born and as amazing as that was (and yes I was chosen by those moms too lol) this was absoultely the most amazing thing I have ever seen mostly cuz she hated me before that and now I am the one who gets to touch them and take care of her. Not that there is that much to do other than keep her fed and watch over them while she is away. Man cats make it seem so easy to be a mom and yet as a mom to 2 I know better lol!

LOL you think that could really be it? He was freaking out and getting all OMG OMG til I told him that this is a natural process and cats having been doing it for thousands of years without our interferance. He was even screaming about Isis (momma) giving birth on a dirty floor (which I might add ticked me off lol) until I told him that cats give birth in the wild and I am pretty sure that its not any cleaner out there LMBO :)

Wow the miracle of birth is amazing no matter how many times we hear about it or watch it happen. You should feel very special that she allowed you to help her. I watched my cat from my childhood birth many kittens and it was always a breathtaking experience every time.
