If I'm reading your question correctly and Dr. King were alive today and was Barak Obama's age, I don't believe that race relations and equality would be where it is right now. Dr. King was the catalyst of a movement that brought an end to segregation and planted the seeds that brought people of all races together. His passion and his hard work brought equality to those who were oppressed. If he had not been alive at the time he was and had not done the good work he did, I don't know what situation this country would be in now in the area of race relations and equality.

I do agree that there is always more to do to improve relations between the races and cultures in this country. I was a kid during the time of segregation, I remember how the father of a friend of mine in elementary school, who was black, told her that she couldn't hang out with me after school. They lived in the "black" part of town but the park was nearby and we used to spend time at the playground. We were in the thrid grade. It sickens me to think back to a time when two little girls could not be friends because of racial tensions.
