Today is an unusual day. I had to settle some bank things and so was bit late for office. It was hot outside, couldn't get anything and I got onto a public bus. While I was getting down, all of a sudden, there was a commotion at the gate. A lot of people tried to get down and get up at the same time. And guess what, someone picked my phone!
This is the first time ever that this happened in 8-9 years! I am pretty known in my friend's circle for changing my phone out of choice and not of compulsion which most do when they lose there phone.
Feeling sad. Moreover, it had some important documents, some close to heart, precious messages and some beautiful photos.
All gone!

It really makes me sad to know that you lost your cell phone due to some pranskter. It reall feels bad to lose such a precious item. The fellow was very smart that he/she did not allow you to safeguard your cell phone. He would have thrown the SIM card instantly. As you said, the loss of contact details, messages and photos is more than the loss of gadget itself,
I hope you would have got blocked your SIM card by now through your service provider, so that it could not be mis-used. I once lost my SIM card, therefore, I know that two things are required to be done immeidately, first get the SIM card blocked and the second one is to report an FIR with the Police (not a formal FIR strictly). You are just required to make an application - stating that someone has picked up your phone from your purse, while you were travelling in a bus. Make two copies of the application and get it stamped through the concerned or say nearest Police Station, that stamped copy, you are required to submit at the outlet of your service provider to get a new/duplicate SIM card. If you have already done this, it is fine. Get a new handset and a new SIM card, (the previous one would be deactivated by your service provider) to start afresh. You have no option, but to buy a new handset.
Please do not worry about messages, your dear friends will send you those message again, as soon as they come to know that you have lost your cell phone and you have replaced it with a new one. For photos, if you had uploaded those in your PC, you can retrieve or say transfer it to your cell phone.
Keep Smiling!
Deepak
P.S. - Please check your PMs and e-mails.

LOL! These kind of experiences make us wiser. I feel, we should always be alert and cautious, specially at public places. Our slight carelessness may prove costly to us.

Good evening, my dear friend, mimpi. I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your having lost your cell phone, especially when you have got so much important information in it. Your case reminds me of my cell phone that was left on the top of the mountain at a scenic spot in 2005. I immediately got back to find it gone forever without getting it back even though I used my colleague's cell phone to call my phone. The one who got mine would not answer and I had no other way but to go to China Mobile Company to have my cell phone service stopped until I got my new one the same day or the same afternoon. In fact, it is very annoying to lose anything. So I am trying to be more careful not to lose my personal stuff that is important to me.
I hope that the one who picked up your cell phone would give it back to you. Good luck to you, my dear mimpi.

Hi Mimpi,
This is very sad. You must be feeling terrible, especially since you had some personal items on it. One can get the feeling of being totally disconnected and lost in moments like these.
I've been fortunate in not loosing one till date and am keeping my fingers crossed that i do not have to go through the pain of loosing one.
Cheer up and smile. You will feel better when you replace it.

Sorry to hear that.. I also lost a phone before and I know how it felt like. It's not only the monetary lost (in my case I bought it myself) but what's inside like memorable photos and messages. I also believe that if you loose something important, a thing of more importance would get back to you.

That's a smart way to get a new one!
BTW, why did you throw it to someone to break it?

I am sorry to hear that, by the sounds of it you can easily afford a new phone, so there is no real problem there. Have you contacted the police? Maybe it just fell out of your bag or something and some nice person may have handed it in, highly unlikely but worth a chance. If not then they might track down, who stole it, but once again unlikely as you were in a crowd. What phone are you planning on getting next?

It is common that many cellphone too well get lost. Mine is lost also, I put up in the table in my home then its gone maybe the neighborhood got it, large item cannot be stolen easily like laptop and appliances. Small thinks like PDA, game handhelds and cellphones have greater risk of being stolen, there is a technique that your cellphone will not be stolen, bring an old cellphone like nokia 3310.

I have been there. I had someone steal mine, and it had important pics that I will NEVER have back. I think that's what to this day still upsets, and hurts my heart cause those meant a lot to me. I also had important numbers which now they have. UGH I HIGHLY suggest you notify your provider that it has been lost/stolen, so they may either catch it, or turn it off so the other person cannot run a heafty bill up for you.
