Two things: 1. 'Crazy' pick no one expected to get media coverage and halt Obama's convention bounce (which is pretty dumb because the bounce would have gone away on its own anyway) 2. "Hail Mary" last-ditch attempt to win over Hillary supporters, which has also failed (women on average like the pick LESS than men).
