Freelance job via internet

I hear that we can work as freelancer in internet, we can search job in odesk.com, guru.com, or some web sites like job's broker..they will take fee from our payment. I have visited their website. And I am not to understand about their system, especially o'desk. How can we get the job if there are a lot of competitors that same like me , looking for a job as freelancer,so.. Is there a suggest to get a job in o'desk.com?

I dont really know much about this comapnay so I will wait and hear what other people tell you. i ahve a satellite connection at home and alot of these places that hire online workers seem to want you to have a broadband connection. I dont blame them because at times the satellite will go down due to problems with the weather ie rain storms etc.
