As a student, it is most advantageous and rightful to have a meaningful planned career ahead of you. Given the chance, what path would you take and why?

Well right now I am following my planned career path. Since my final year in high school I knew I wanted to be a mathematician or a physicist. I studied both of these in college as a student, and chose to continue on with physics. So now I have just started graduate school trying to get my PhD in physics. I still have 5-7 years to go that means, but I'm pretty well set in what I will be doing. The only thing I have to decide is what I want to do with my degree when I graduate, but I'll have many options and long enough of a time to figure that out now. It really helped me knowing what I wanted to do and having it laid out.
That said, it is OK to not know what you want to do and explore a few options for a while. Not many people know what they want to do with their life at 20, and changing your mind is alright. Do not stress if you don't know what you want to do, and there is no need to plan out the rest of your life at that age.

It took me a very long time to find my career path. I changed my degree course twice before making the right choice! My dream is to become a university lecturer as this would allow me to do what I most like: research and publishing books. I am currently finishing my MA in Hispanic Studies at King's College London and if all goes well I will be able to start a PhD in a year's time. I'm planning to take a gap year in between as this will allow me to get some teaching experience.
I guess it probably does make your life a lot easier if you have a planned career path to follow but if it's not the case do not worry as in time you will find what is right for you. Some people take longer than others but do not let this discourage you. Take some time off and think of what you enjoy doing and see whether you could possibly combine any interests. For instance I love travelling and I know that as a lecturer I will most definately hold conferences abroad and will be needing documentation from Latin America and Spain to write my books.

Yes, I agree with what you mean. Many people today just choose jobs because they hope to make big bucks, even though they are not interested in their career. Chances are they'll just hop from one to another. If one chooses to stick with their job, and to be very successful, enthusiasm is a must.
Well I wish you success too, in all your planned ventures!
