How do you earn money blogging?

I have a couple of blogs, but I've yet to figure out what it is that you do to make money with them. Can someone give me beginners instructions for earning money with your blog?

I hope you have lots of people responding, as I would like to do the same. I do not even have a blog yet, but feel like I should probably find a niche and start one. I think another MyLot user posted a good explanation, but I am not sure that I have the discussion saved.
