Do you think a psychiatrist is good job?

One of my sister is having course in order to become a psychiatrist! I think its sooo cool! But some of her relatives and friends dont quite support her, because in their minds, the job is gloomy and spooky.. u know, everyday, she ought to listen to all kinds of "psychological crap". Some People even think the psychiatrists are those who need to go to the shrink most! What do you think about this job? Anyone here is a psychiatrist? Do you support my elder sister to chase her dream? coz she really wants to be one.

I will support your elder sister for her dream.
to become a psychologist' was my dream. After my technical studies, I did my post graduation in psychology in order to fulfill my dreams. Somehow till now I could not go along with it. I love psychology and reading lot of books and love to be a psychologist even now. Psychiatry is with medicine, which I can not opt at present.

My sister is graduated as a psychology major in brilliant college, which is very famous in Shanghai. But the competiton in the job market is fiecre, so she settled down as a teacher first and then chase her dream. Thank you for response! Hi merrycherry,
I'd say go for it to you sister, it is a very good proffesion and its helping people, never mind the relatives and friends, they don't understand so tell her to go for and enjoy what she is doing.

Are you kidding me? that is an awesome job ...She can help people with their problems & she will be well needed...I do not know what is wrong with those friends that do not support her,perhaps they are just a tad bit jealous.that is a very highly respectable job ,plus you can make a very good living as well as helping others with their problems...You tell your sister that i am for one very proud of her for choosing such a wonderful profession....

i tell you she will be getting a big check at the end of the week. with the rate that psychiatric problems that are emerging she will have her hands full. plus each session costs a lot even if you only have 1 client. your sis will be loaded. but be warned, being any sort of M.D. is very stressful
