I've heard this before..when you boil the egg for a long time than the usual the yellow part darkens a little and they say that it's not good..

quite possible. dear jenskye03. since egg is almost full of protiens and as heat changes their configuration by a process which is called agglutination . quite obviously excessive heat will further change the configuration of the proteinaceous part and may make it poisonous or unfit for human consumption. as you see the color changes to dark and even black!! and you see i feel it may not be advisable to consume these over boiled eggs!!

I guess it is possible although I've never heard that. I have had some hard-boiled eggs where the yolk had darkened a little but I still ate it and I was okay. Guess you'd have to boil them eggs a long, long time to get what you describe

I remember during my 6th grade, when my mother ask me to boil an egg, she needs it to decorate her fried noodles on top. I did boil the egg, then I turned my back to play with my brother. Later I heard my mother shouting, somethings burning. Then I remember my egg. I went to the kitchen, and smelled the burnt. I immediately turn off the gas range. The pot is all black, when I opened it, it smells terribly. The egg is black. I have to throw it away. I can still remember I scrub the pot for like hours. But could not remove the dirt. Lesson learned. I think we should use a kitchen timer. It will serve its purpose and will be a lot safer. Boiling an egg should be 10 minutes. I think this will have a perfect hard boiled egg. Any food that is overcooked is not fit for human consumption. We have to be careful about this. It is hazardous to our health.

I guess it's ok to eat, however, due to the long time boiling, most of the nutrition is lost. So,I suggest just throw it away~~
