Tithing

Do you tithe regularly? Do you give a specific percentage of your income? I have always heard 10 percent. I was wondering how many follow this rule. Do you have the money automatically deducted? Do you write checks? Do you give above and beyond to missions and such? I'd love to have a discussion about giving - how you do it and who you give too. Thanks for responding!

I make sure I give at least 10% of my income to my church, yes, but then give as much as I can over that depending on my circumstances. I don't have it automatically deducted, I just make sure I take it out when I get my paycheck so I don't accidentally spend money that is the Lord's. Other than the 10% I just try to give generously in other ways, like fasting once a month and donating the money I might have spent on the food to the church humanitarian fund for the poor. Or putting aside a little extra for missionaries, like my little brother who is serving full time in Italy right now.

I like your idea of fasting and then giving. I can't say I have ever been able to fast but with your post as encouragement, I might like to try that with my family.

Again, this sounds really good. We do fast as a church once a year for a few weeks on Wednesdays usually around easter time - the schedule varies. I love your comment about praying. I can't tell you how often I need to hear that. I don't tend to turn to prayer first, my sin I am afraid. It is always a good thing to be reminded to pray. When I read your response it was like being hit in the forehead - silly! - PRAY! (comment to myself - in case you didn't get my train of thought)

It is a lot easier if you pray along with it. Just helps to know your priorities. In our church we do it at least once a month together as a congregation... but often separate as a way to focus and ask for blessings for someone. Like if a friend is sick, we might decide to fast as a family. The poor get the money, and the sick persona gets the blessings... because we show God we can put him first, you know?

Every worship service we offer some money, that is twice in a week. We are not obliged to give 10%, but we are just taught to give something from our heart and our capabilities.

We are not obliged to give either I guess you could say. But I think the 10 percent comes from scripture. Interesting that you have service twice a week, we only have it once, what denomination are you? Thanks for responding.

Tithing is very important in your Christian walk. God gives you the ability to work and the money you get is yours to be a steward of, if you are faithful you will tithe 10% to your church so that the gospel can be funded and spread to others so they can hear it. I once heard a lady talk about tithing and her husband and her didn't tithe for about 6 months, they felt the need to tithe so they went and got a loan for the amount they should have tithed, Whoa! She said they never missed another chance to tithe again. We tithe to a Bible Camp since we don't have a regular church since we move every 3 months. Here's another question I had about tithing to my pastor. I asked if I should tithe from my net or my gross, he asked me with a smile, "Which one do you want God to bless?" Great topic, I hope you get some good responses.

I agree with your comments completely. I had heard the question about net and gross before. We did a financial course through our church that dealt with many issues about how we deal with all factors of money. Savings, loans, paying off debt, tithing, taking care of investments (car, house...) all really good topics of discussion. I will say not many were earth shattering for us but it was good to revisit it and see that we were heading on the right tract with our financial decisions. The best thing for us was to try to put a budget to paper.

Your Weekly Tithing should look like this. - If I could give this much to my church each week, I would.
I tithe when I can. I'm a full-time student, full-time mommy right now and my only income is unemployment and child support (child support stopped a while back and unemployment is about to stop). I'm looking for an online job right now. Know of any good sites? Happy MyLotting!
