Have you deleted any Facebook applications?

I have decided that Facebook is wasting my time on the internet. With the myriad Facebook applications one can add, there are so many time-wasting activities you add on your already long list. On top of that, my friends continuously ask me to add new applications there. I got tired of all of them.
So one day, I decided to delete all of them. I had to be cruel. So I deleted all the gift applications, all the games applications, all the personality test applications and what not. I'm left with just important ones. I left SuperPoke! not because I use it to poke others, but to send birthday wishes to my friends. I left my Triond application which I use to promote my articles on Facebook. And I left twitter on Facebook. I just joined Twitter, wanted to see the potentials of it.
Other than that, I still continue to syndicate my blog so my friends at Facebook can read them if they are interested. No I spend less than 5 minutes on Facebook. I check for messages, add new friends, send a message if I need to, share my articles, update twitter and I'm done.
What about you? Have you felt that the applications of Facebook are wasting your time? Have you deleted any applications or ignored people's request to add new applications?

Ive had to delete people who constantly send their application sign ups to me, its very frustrating getting them everytime you log on!
Other than that, yes Ive deleted lots of applications because they clutter up the page, they are useless and they insist on you sending invites to your friends (a sure fire way to lose them all!!)
I have however kept a couple of applications that I love, new ones now that scrabble isnt an option! A word challenge and a brain game. Keeps me entertained when I have a spare minute at work!

It is very frustrating indeed. I hate to send invites and I hate receiving them too. I did have one brain game I liked installed once. It was Sudoku. It took up a lot of time. Then I deleted it. I now play Sudoku whenever it appears in the newspaper, once a week.

I admit I have deleted some of my Facebook applications, mainly because they take up so much space and Facebook has slowed down considerably. I haven't deleted nearly as much as I should. I love the pretty flowers on my page so I haven't deleted those, and I haven't deleted the games, though I don't play them much. But, like you said, my friends keep asking me to add applications but I pretty much ignore them now. I will probably do some more, but I don't go over there as often as I used to. Obviously I have kept the Triond application.

Yes, I was the one who asked about putting the Triond articles up at the top. But I was a little confused because you also said that it was frowned upon by Facebook, unless you were talking about something else. So I didn't bother trying because I was under the impression that I really shouldn't be doing it. I put at notice in my "what are you doing now" to ask people to scroll down and read my articles.

Hi Pat, I have also kept my Facebook application so that I could share my articles with my Facebook friends. I can't recall (short-term memory). Were you the one who asked me how to put articles into Facebook profile so that it can be shared among Facebook friends? If you are, did you manage to do it? If you're not, just ignore the last few sentences. I know the flowers and gifts looked so pretty decking my Facebook pages, but I had to be ruthless, to make sure that my time online is well spent.

My, my... I wasn't as drastic as you. I still keep those which I liked and those that are useful to me. Other than that, out they go! So I have about 5 max.

Facebook drives me absolutely CRAZY! The only time I EVER log in to my account on Facebook is when someone makes a friend request. That's it. And even then I am in and out very fast. I have been bought, sold, owned and God knows what else so many times on Facebook I have no idea what the heck is going on! lol.

I'm still laughing at your response, James! You're so funny. Yup! It's in and out for me on Facebook in 5 minutes flat. I used to spend more time when I first started, but I don't find there is any point in doing that anymore. Has Facebook lost its touch?

You're the first person here in my discussion which says that Facebook is better than Friendster. I find Friendster a bit kiddyish. So did not join it. I think 1 networking site is enough to give me a headache.

Oh gosh yes! After the first comment someone left on my wall, "Whew! Finally found your wall, I was just about to give up scrolling down!"
Then I finally looked at my profile page, because I didn't necessarily do that every time I went on.
SO, at first I cleaned it up, like re-arranging the applications, moving the wall to appear right under my history feed thingy.
Then as I was cleaning, I thought, "Hrm, I don't really NEED this app...delete....why DO I need a daily dragon app, when the picture NEVER changes by itself? Delete!"
etc etc
I also have ignore requests to join, add, attend many things before, even blocked some invites as well.

That's true. Sometimes I can't even find the application I need. Now that I have cut down, I'm able to bring the most important applications to the top of my profile and make it easier for others to view it too.

I'm glad I don't have facebook account.. :0) .. I only maintain friendster account as my social network..one in multiply for somes bussiness fun! and of course, yahoo for emails.. and myLot for free online earnings!

The main thing is to stick to the ones that we like. If friendster and multiply work for you, I don't feel that you need too many other social networking sites. This is actually when less is more.

I signed up for it; but I hardly ever pay any attention to it. What sort of applications were they requesting? I did hear some bad press on them recently on a blog watch on G4.
Is Twitter any good? I've seen that often. I have always wondered if it any good; or just one more thing to add to an already very busy day.

There are so many types of applications. There are games you can play online, either alone or with friends. And normally it requires you to have friends who also have the application so that you can play together. That's where the endless application invites come in. There are also personality test applications, sending out gifts applications. YOu can send out food, flowers, hatching eggs, designer bags, Ben & Jerry's ice cream to your friends. basically whatever you can think of actually. It's okay if it is limited to just one or two gift applications, but with almost unlimited number of gift applications, my profile page was so cluttered, I can't even find the important stuff. That's when I decided to clear every thing. I have just started using Twitter. The website on its own is used to tell people what you're doing at that moment. Some people would read it and may decide to "follow" you. Sounds like a stalking application. But I often use it to publicise my blog or articles, in the hope of increasign pageviews. Some people are addicted to Twitter like they are addicted to myLot. So far I have used Twitter a few times a week.

I have deleted many facebook applications because most of the one I had were useless. And the third party companies that made the apps were seeing all my personal information on my profile so I deleted them.

You are right! Security issues is one big flaw when it comes to adding applications in Facebook, which many people are not aware of.

Yep have deleted a host of applications there, the ones I really can't b bothered with are those that ask you to invite X amount of friends before you can continue...and then it also clogs your page and makes it load slow when you have so much endless applications sitting there uggg

I agree. I particularly hate those applications which ask you to invite a certain number of people before moving on. I just ignore those, better still, I block the application altogether.

All of the applications that run rampant all over Facebook is my main complaint over there. I get crap from my friends over there all the time and I just delete it. It really annoys me that all those same applications are being brought to myspace now. So now I am being inundated with comments and and messages there with all that junk. I delete it there too.

I'm glad that I'm only a member of only one social networking site. It's already quite bad in Facebook. But you have to delete the applications in both sites. I don't think I would have been able to take it. I would have deleted one account.

I was just like you in the beginning, accepting request for what I thought would be interesting applications. But now, I have decided that none really interest me so much that I would want to keep them.

Well, as far as I know, facebook used to not have any applications. I remember when I first got it, I'm pretty sure there was nothing. Then all of a sudden all these applications were born and they attack my notifications! I hated adding them because I hated telling other people to add them--until I realized that you didn't have to tell other people to add them? haha.
Anyway, I always ignore peoples requests to add applications. Every now and then I'll check one out, but I usually don't want to join someone's "mafia" or be a ninja? I don't know..there are a lot. I try to keep my facebook as simple as possible, but I still have a few applications. At one point I had kind of a lot, but I went through and did the same thing you did--deleted the ones that I really didn't "need."
I think the applications would take up a lot of my time if I had more of them, but I usually spend my time writing on people's walls and stuff. The simple things that are just there...so why do I have the few applications that I do? I don't know. haha.

You must have been a member of Facebook for quite some time now. When I joined some time this year, all the applications are available. Now with the new Facebook profile look, it may neaten the profile page but your application page will still look cluttered. I'm glad I deleted most of my applications. I feel better too.

When I first joined Facebook I added every application that my friends threw my way... but it got annoying after a month or so... the only applications I have left on there now are the flower patch thing where its donates to saving the rain forest and music I like and thats about it!

Hey! Lil Green Patch, I still keep that one too, thought it might help spread the green movement a bit, but have stopped sending plants to my friends though. I also kept one Gift application, that's all. I think it's best to clutter-free your life.

When people send me applications I always ignore the requests. If I would keep all the applications that I get my computer would slows down so much. I dont have time to sit there and wait untill everything comes in.

I even block the applications, not just ignoring them. No one can send me that application invite ever again. My computer is already working on overdrive, so really anyway to help it from crashing does help. And Facebook is not helping...

The apps are annoying but I just started using my Facebook account (which I've had for six months) and I am finding people I haven't seen in decades. that's cool and it is easy to find friends but the excitement will soon wear off and it will end up being another site I rarely use. This week Im blowing it up! Aint nothing like Mylot!!!

You're right. The exictement has certainly wore off for me and I'm jsut sticking to the basic use of Facebook, to look for long lost friends and colleagues. Other than that, I'd rather hang out at myLot and earn more money.

Glad you wrote about this. I'm not in facebook, but I've been thinking of joining facebook for the sole reason that it's one way of keeping more in touch with a few friends, I've been procrastinating. If I ever get to it, I'll keep your insights in mind. I'm sure you're right about the time-wasters.

Hi NonaSaile,
Facebook has its benefits for me. I signed up because I was rather curious about the hype with Facebook. I still feel that I managed to find long lost friends through the site. Many of them work or are living overseas now. It would have been impossible to trace them without such networking sites. It's also a great way to publicise whatever you do. If you have a blog, you can syndicate it so that your friends there can check them out. Since you write for Triond, you can add a Triond application which allows you to share them with your Facebook friends. These are some of the benefits. Other than that, avoid adding the useless, time-wasting applications. If you're interested to read some of my articles on time-wasting online activities, just go to my Triond profile. I wrote about 4 articles about it.

Me too! I still get application requests which I block nowadays. There was once I received lots of invites from one particular student I used to teach that I had to write her a note to tell her to stop what she was doing. She apologised and has been selective when she does invites. Even then I still block them all. Like you, I'm noat accepting anymore invites.
