the baby might be experiencing colic. you should ask your friend if she's letting the baby burp after eating. or probably the baby is hungry. the baby might need a change of diaper or want to sleep but could not. babies do not cry for no reason at all - they need to be comforted and your friend must look for the things that make the baby uncomfortable. if all these still fail, your friend needs to consult a pediatrician.

It is a certain time of day that the baby cries or is it 24/7? If it is all day long-- I think I would possibly see the Dr. because it could be something else serious. Sometimes babies are just fussy at certain times of day & all we can do are things to help reduce it. Move to a quiet room, swaddle, rock, sing to them. One thing that always helped my little girl was to take her outside on a walk in the stroller & that would always soothe her. I know that all babies are different but there are lots of different things to try. Is the baby fussy after eating a certain food or formula? If so, he/she could be allergic to it and simply changing the formula would stop it. If the baby has a burp that could make him/her fussy. Sometimes a bath will help calm a crying baby or even rubbing lotion all over the baby can help relax them. I would check to see when the last time the baby had a BM or things like that.. if in doubt it's always good to check with the Dr. Good luck

Maybe the baby has colic. If so, there are over the counter medicines for it. Maybe try using soothing music. I have also heard to set their car seat on the washer with her standing right beside it of course, while it is running to soothe baby.
