why is it whenever i want to write a poem or short story in my free time i can't think of ANYTHING to write? anyone else feel like that? I'm sure everyone does at one point or another but i seem to have this issue focusing on what i want to write about either that or my household is just too noisy an environment to focus haha, i used to write ALOT of poems and get them published online but now i can't seem to come up with anything that would be pleasing to read!

You can't force things to come out of your head. I try to get in the mood, if nothing works I read, sometimes when I read, I get ideas from reading other people's stories and go from there. Sometimes, I go outside for long walks, stuff will come, just don't force. I always have pen and paper with me just in case something pops out of the blue.

mind you, most of the poems i made were all born when i was depressed and down from relationship failures. thus most of what i wrote are as stories depicting events in that relationship, i think i only have 1 or 2 articles that has full of inspiration and the rest are always mourning. i cannot write anything when i don't think of it and while i am telling myself to make one or do it now. it always start with a situation, then my mind starts to move around, create words and brainstorm them. by that, everything happens in my mind and still needs to transform it into words on paper. there were times too that i scribble short quotes, short messages or short phrases but i could not finish them at one time. it is in fact just my guide in making it in the later part which oftentimes do good to me cause i don't have to remember what are those words that popped-out of my mind. i could relate in your situation in some point and like me, i fell that i have so many things in my mind, so many ideas but it is just so hard to convert them into words.

Typical but also solvable. There are all sorts of "tricks" that you can use to overcome this "writers block".
1. Keep a journal of ideas
2. Join a writers community on-line that is organized by ideas
3. Keep a idea jar, jot ideas on a note paper throw them in the jar for later
Those are just a few ways to keep inspiration at your fingertips.

Free writing works best for me, when I hit a wall like that. But even that doesn't help all the time. I certainly find myself sitting, staring at a cursor more often then I would like. What I really hate is when I get all fired up about an idea, write great for a few days and then...Nothing. I go to get back to it and the well is dry (to be trite). It's not that I don't know what I want to write, but the words just don't come. Character A is in Plot Point 1, but I can't write them out of it to move on to Plot Point 2. And Character B has convinced themselves that they need to contribute. It's maddening. But, that's the job, I think.

Yes I have this problem a lot, when I actually intend to sit and write nothing will come into my head at all. If I am busy or going to bed or somewhere that I can not get to a pen and paper I have words pouring into my head from all directions. It is so frustrating because of course by the time I get to pen and paper I cannot remember what it was that I had thought of.
