how can I start a website?

I'm a newbie to this stuff. I use to write basic HTML for free sites like tripod and so on back in the day. But today I do not even know how to get started. I want to create a site that has a similar format to a blog, but with its own web address. How can I start a website? How do I get started? What is the easiest way to get a domain name and have it hosted, etc? Thank you!

These days, it's very easy to get started building your own website, especially if you want to put up a blog. In order to put up a blog with your own domain name, you need three things:
1. a domain name
2. a blogging platform
3. a web hosting account that will work with your chosen blogging platform (most of the popular blogging platforms require php and mysql in order to work)
Nowadays, there are a lot of web hosting companies that will register your domain name for free if you choose to host with them. Many of them also offer auto-installers for the most popular blogging platforms. (I love Wordpress, personally, but there are others out there as well.) Shop around online and compare prices and services. You can find web hosting complete with php, mysql and easy installation scripts for a blog for about $5 a month though some may require that you pay a year up front in order to get a free domain name.

Well first you got to develop a web page by using HTML, CSS and XHTML. You can use this link like a tutorial to help to develop the web page.

Once that is done, you need to buy a domain name such as .com, .net etc. For a basic web site the best would be .com I feel. After that you have to hos your web page on a web server with a dedicated link so that the traffic runs smoothly.

I am newbie too...my friend..I just start learned about site in dream weaver, html. css, php and mysql. I am still not understanding about it. I will lear step by step. I have some free website. I put it in free domain like bravenet. Just learn how to hosting a free website. I think if you want to get free domain, it is easiest way.

you just need to buy a domain name for a period of one year or something and then just put your page in the database of the server that they provide for you. that's is you are done.. it will just like a free hosting site but you will have your desired domain name..........
