Those stars before your username, what are they?

I have one red star with a "9" in the middle before "phyrethyme." What does it indicate? What is it for? I am just curious. It must be somewhere in the FAQ's here but I'm too lazy to look for it so I am asking you users. :)

hmm.. So if you don't participate a lot your rank would be smaller.. Kinda makes sense.. (why my star is so small.. lol) I haven't been on in a while... I really expected it to be bigger though...
