Avatar Napping...

Some ppl on here have never gotten an avatar…they still use the little green guy. Some of us have taken time to find the perfect little avatar to suit us. Perhaps we’ve made it ourselves, found it online and tweaked it to make it just so or maybe a friend made it for us. Regardless, it’s a special little thing that shows something of ourselves.
My avatar, as you can tell, is a little kitty. She washes her face all day long. I found the image online, tweaked it a bit to make it look just right and put it as my avatar. I love watching it and it reminds me of our Morgana who is always washing herself.
I’d think that other ppl would want an equally unique avatar to express themselves. Then the other day it came to my attention that someone actually took my avatar to use as their own. Not a found one online but actually my tweaked version. I can’t really be mad b/c it wasn’t “mine” to begin with but I still don’t see why someone would do that.
Have you ever had your avatar kidnapped? Would you change yours if it were? Would you be mad or chew out the person that took it? What makes yours so unique?

I did have an avatar up that I got online then changed it to a picture of my cat that I had taken of her. I did see the one not long ago that I first used and it didn't bother me at all since it did come from the internet. If I did see someone had a picture of my cat as their avatar I am not sure how I would feel...upset that they took it or happy that they thought she was so pretty that they wanted to show her off too. haha

Seeing your pic inspired me to make a change. Rather than just a run of the mill internet kitty (no matter that she's cute) I decided to put our furbaby on here. My new avatar is of our little (???) ball of fur. Now my avatar is truely unique and Morgana is my MyLot avatar LOL

I would be disappointed. I might send a personal message. I ran into someone who's screen name got borrowed, but when she "talked" with that individual, they modified theirs and both were happy. I think I would change my avatar, and use a pic that I had copyrighted and put a watermark on. It sounds like it could be annoying, or confusing. Like maybe that person wants to ride your good reputation into points and responses.

Well, I'd be upset and I'd do whatever I could to get them to take it off. Mine is ME, it's permanantly attached to me and goes with me everywhere. I use this on-line because people who know me have seen it live and recognize it as me. Those who've never seen it also know it's me. I own the rights to the picture and the content so I'd do my best to make sure someone else didn't steal it. Although I know that's hard to do because it's the internet and all...
I was wondering why you had a new avitar!

Yes, it is, and it's on my right uppper portion of my torso that I can't say or it will add unwanted tags to the discussion....

i think it's important to have one because it makes it more personal. it makes it seem you are really talking to someone. it makes it seem like they took a moment to make themselves more of a member of our wonderful mylot family.
so maybe they will take a look at this and get one for themselves.

I noticed that avatar the other day. I thought it was you at first since the kitty was there and just glancing the name starts with a "T" as well. If I were in that position I would be tempted to change it, but you had it first. I think the new person should change it. My avatar is a picture of my son, so no one else better be running around with it.

I would be upset if someone "stole" my avatar. It sort of is our identity on mylot, each one is unique. I love Maxine, thats why I picked her. I have seen another Maxine out there, at first I was sort of upset, but quickly got over it. Maxine is well loved and it wasn't the same one as mine. I suppose if someone started using the one I use, I might change it. But this has been who I have been since the beginning, this is who I want to stay.

The present avatar I am using was also downloaded from elsewhere. In this case, I would be curious as to where they got it from, because this pic I presently use was something I had from years ago.
I also have a modified version, where it's only the face, as well as probably 25 others of the same species, mostly male, but some females, too. If it was one of those being used, that would make me wonder where they got it from, being that I had them on a site for people to use back about 5 years ago. The site has been offline since 2005, so it would probably turn out to be a re-union.
I did have a friend who used a picture of herself. Someone was giving this friend a hard time, starting with stealing her avatar. I believe that there is an IP ban on that person.

I had a friend make mine years ago for another program I was in.
I dont think I have seen any one else use it For it is mine for sure they would have to change the name on it.
DOnt hink I would be mad if someone liked it that much .
But it was made for my name I use.

I think a person would have to be very unimaginative to have to steal it !

My avatar is a picture I took of my valentines day flowers a few years back, and I don't think I wold be really mad if someone else used it, as we take pictures everyday from the internet.

I think my avatar is fairly unique and it is pic I found on line and converted to an avatar. It has special meaning because I am a scientist and have always been intrigued by the concept of infinity and also because I find the symbol for infinity, my avatar, to be attractive. I have used other altered or enhanced versions of it on forums and other places.

Nope ! I've never napped an avatar.
I found " avatarist. "
A site with with a huge selection of avatars.
There are other sites with them too although I'm not all that familiar with places to find avatars.

Its funny because before I came to Mylot I had never heard the word avatar before, so that is the first thing I learnt when i came on here, and i took a long time to find just the right one and yes someone was using mine for a little while, I think you have a very cute avatar...

My avatar is of my alpha female "Schatzie", one of my 3 babies and very special to me. As I took the photo myself and use it because she has her mouth open and is giving her opinion here on myLot. I would be annoyed if someone used it without my permission.

I picked my avatar because I love the picture. Its Oliver and Rygel in a wreath, its such a sweet picture, that reminds me of them, and the love they have for each other. How Rygel came in and helped teach Oliver how to be a cat when he was 4 weeks old.
Rygel is a sweet, boy, he is a good uncle cat and has been to all our kittens since Oliver.

Seeing as how my avatar is a picture of me, I would be very mad if someone started using my pic. I would let that person have it, then report them to MyLot for plagiarism, or whatever its called when someone steals your picture.
I would be mad not only because they stole my picture, but now you are representing me falsely, which is bad for two reasons. Number one, MyLot may think that I am using two accounts, which is against TOS; and two, you are going around with my picture posting things that I may not even believe in, so you are possibly ruining my image as well.
I was thinking about changing my Avatar to something else, a cartoon perhaps. But this discussion has changed my mind. If I do change it, it will be another picture of me.

I guess they love your avatar so much they wanted it for themselves? I know someone else on myLot has the same avatar as I do, but I don't really care. I came across my kitty when I first got my own internet connection, so at least seven years ago. I can't remember where I found her, but I just love that grin... and she's a tabby, just like me

I think your avatar is really cute. I think that if I knew someone had kidnapped my avatar I would be cross, especially if I had personalised it myself. My avatar changes quite a lot, I am not loyal to just one. My current avatar is personal to me because it is a picture I took myself and I think it is quite a good clear picture!
