Now I know there is a lot of controversy around both religion and evolution BUT I just have to ask you this question. It is a question that I asked a sunday school teacher many years ago and have never really received a satisfactory answer to.
My quesion is simply this : If man evolved from apes, and man was created in the image of God, then shouldn't God be an ape?
Your thoughts? Please don't go all serious on me either - remember, this was a question of a child (once upon a time), I'd just like to hear your thoughts and commnets.

I've asked the same question and found my own answers.
"If" evolution is real, why aren't we seeing it still happening?
It has to and any scientist knows that!
Naw, it took a very intelligent being to start this life.
And, he didn't monkey around with it!

Why aren't we seeing it happen? A.) we don't see it happen in people, because evolution happens when those that aren't fit for survival fail, but as a society we have overcome most of these issues. B.) It is a long term process that takes hundreds of thousands of years for something as complex as a human or animal to evolve. C.) If you are paying attention, you would know that we see it every day. Viruses evolve at immensely fast rates, that is why the flu is so common and flu vaccines are only good for a season. The cold virus is the same way. And that is how we are getting anti-biotic resistant bacteria. This is evolution that we see every day. People who don't want to believe in evolution are completely ignorant to this fact though and choose to blind themselves with their religious beliefs. By the way, if God made us in his own image, he made males and females different. Is he a hermaphrodite. And with the many flaws in the human race, such as a much lower resistance to disease and radiation than even the lowly cockroach, then doesn't it stand to reason, with human imperfections, and humans made in the image of god, that god is imperfect? But god is supposed to be the perfect being. This is an inherent contradiction. Try to work around that one.

God is perfection. He gave man free will. It's to test us and see if we make the right choices.

HawkBat,
Uh, duh! It seems our "Higher Power" thought enough of his creation to
make it a "help mate" and friend in order for the world to populate.
We (man/woman) are the problem behind most of our problems that exist.
Almost every medical problem out there today is "man made". Maybe
the "big guy" messed up when he gave us a brain and a heart.
Have you ever been sad and really cried? God gave us the heart to feel
all emotions with. Yep, evolution is happening, so is Global Warming.
Thank man for destroying Mother Nature and causing this!

I hope your Sunday school teacher didn't teach you that man evolved from apes. You can choose to believe you are an ape, I know I'm not...
Welcome to myLot!

Maybe ape was the first chosen creature of God but then he just decided to make it look like Him later when he decided that He needs something that looks like Him. That is why he thought of evolution to make the specie better than apes but more like Him and thinks like Him and that is why came in Man. Just my thought on things.

The phrase 'image and likeness' are used not in term of the reflection of ourselves when we look into the mirror, but in terms of the qualities of human being. Theologians are not able to come up with neatly defined idea, but all are agreed that the phrase meant some qualities that express relationship, moral, spiritual etc. By which it would mean than man is a relational animal, moral animal, spiritual animal etc. We are not just made up of bundle of atoms! Science will try to explain us in terms of DNA and atoms. Agreed at that level. But such explanation is not adequate. Human being is more than that.
When I see my father, I would be so surprised if a scientist tells me that what I am seeing in front of me is just a bundle of atoms. Well, he is made up of bundle of atoms, but he is more than that. I think human is, therefore, not it but human being is 'thou'... and it is this idea of 'thou' that gives rise to what is called human rights. And this idea of thou that is the basis for human rights is deeply religious... deeply Judeo-Christian in its historical development of the idea. And all emerge because the Bible teaches that we human being are in God's image!

Fine! But what do you mean when you said than man was created in God's 'image'? What is the meaning of the 'image'? It seems to me that your understanding of the phrase was not right.

Wow!!!! Sorry, no offence intended but I really am not sure exactly what you are trying to say, other than it all came from the fact that the Bible teaches that we are made in Gods image. Am I being really blonde? or does anyone else also wonder what this is getting at? Sorry Head.

LOL Technically if you mix the two, then yes God should be an ape. This is why there is such a separation between evolution and creation. Most people believe in one or the other and not both. It would be too confusing. LOL

Hi
Glad you agree with me and I am not just talking total garbage. Yeah, I guess it would get quite messy to try to mix the two together. Could make for quite an amusing story though. lol

You really can't have both theories squished into one. Either you believe in evolution or you believe in Christ. One little question I have for all those evolution believers out there...If man evolved from apes...then why are there still apes existing today?
Scientists like to have an answer for everything in life and when you're dealing with faith, sometimes there are no answers...that's where miracles step in.

Good question. I have also wondered about that one and can only think that perhaps it was one particular strain of ape which evolved ... and the rest didn't! Who knows? I don't.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha,
" If man evolved from apes, and man was created in the image of God, then shouldn't God be an ape?"
No, read what you have written; God made man in his own image not the ape from which man evolved. Therefore the implication would be that God was like man not an ape.
Genesis contains deep truths about man's nature not about his decent. Like many things in the Bible it is not supposed to be taken literally.
