need for a religion

Throughout history, there have been many atrocities committed in the name of religion. At the same time, religion has brought peace and love and comfort to even more people than religion has harmed. I'm not sure a religion is necessary, but belief in God is really necessary for most people. Maybe we could find a way to prevent people from using religion as an excuse for being hateful, horrible people? It's been an issue from the beginning. Maybe some day we'll find a way to truly coexist. That would make the world a much better palace!
