Yesterday I bought a 40GB second hand harddisk it works fine, I even explore the files on my drive. As usual I reformat the harddisk and install new OS (operating system) windows xp. Boot from CDrom and restart the computer, a blue screen appear checking hardware components then showing C status with one partition and 8mb unpartition. I delete all and create one partition that is C. I used file type NTFS not quick. The next procedure goes on until I reach 41% then a problem occur while still on the process the computer restart because of low power or low voltage of our electricity. Again it check hardware components then later a message appear fail operating system error something like that. I restart the computer and the blinking cursor appear I waited long before I decided to restart again. Another message appear showing aCĀ„@ something like that. I restart again then the messages is "Error loading operating system. The harddisk and CDrom drive detected but the error still came up. I want to fix it really nothings happen. Guys help me about this please I cant install my OS because of it. What should I do?

Sounds like the hard disk is bad or the boot sector of the hard disk is bad.

I think it maybe your Harddrive zero sector bad. This leader your system can't boot and show error message. You can use the partition tools named pamagic. Leave original 10M as a alone partition and not used. Then divide remain patition and active and format the secon partition as C drive. Install os. It can boot system. This way can SKIP the BAD zero sector and boot from the second partition. Try this way. Good luck.

Yah I think it too but a while ago I search my problem about this error. Some says it was normal to encounter in most xp. Some also says to update my bios. And in that case I dont know how to do that. Is it really risky?

That's the same with my brothers computer. His case was intermittent. While loading the windows installer, it says error cannot load something right? It could be that the CD drive is having trouble reading. Try replacing it. But i did it the hard way. I installed in another computer, and did a install repair using the CD. About your CMOS, just buy a replacement battery, if it doesn't work, pm me... Well, flashing the BIOS isn't hard. The only problem is when your electricity goes out when it is flashing. If it is flashing critical parts of the CMOS, it may not come out of it.

Yea, that's probably it. You could try changing the IDE cable if you have extra, its a mystery to why a lot of IDE cable suddenly turns bad for no reason

Yah most likely ill agree with you, Im suspecting lot of things maybe my mboard, cdrom drive, or power supply disconected as well as IDE cable. Among of those I suspected CDrom a lot more cause the last time I use my computer the CDrom detected but after I login to my windows and explore MyComputer the drive D disappear, so I need to restart again. I also always expecting error when I try to burn a CD it always fail to backup my CD. Then when I try to play movies after 1hr of playing the computer hang, you cannot even press the power button except unplag your computer's AVR.

Restart your computer and enter the Bios. It is usually the Esc or an F key, F4-F10. Once you see the Dos looking screen, you can navigate with the arrow keys and Enter key. Look for Boot options or Hard disk priority. Your system will vary. Basically, you want to get the system to boot from CD-Rom first, c Drive second. If that looks good, Ensure that both hard drives are detected. If it all looks good, you will have to use the FDISK option to repair any bad clusters on your C drive. This can be found on your Windows disk.

Thanks, I already tried obcourse I know how to set my priority when booting. I set CDrom then C then I disabled floopy boot. I always check and make sure my device are detected. To avoid conflict I set my primary master as drive C and my CDrom drive is set at secondary slave IDE. When I disabled my CDrom drive and reboot, it shows "Error loading operating system". Its because some files of drive C have been erase while trying to format my drive and as I said the low voltage causes my computer to restart. Then if I disabled my drive C also enable my CDrom drive it shows something like "select boot device". My CMOS battery is not working cause when I turn on my computer after 30 minutes the settings goes back to each factory default. Is that right?

Try older operating system like windows 2000, mine I use windows 2000 and still operable. In the past I use windows xp, but too many problems like spyware and system errors are encountered. Maybe format the drive to fat32 - maybe it help, or reformat it again, I encountered error to my system files when I use a recovery partition software then I do not use it already and also I'm afraid to install another operating system.
