I have been living in a military town since the end of Febuary, and I have noticed that most of the marraiges in this town are what military persons and civilians consider a contract marraige. A contract marraige is basically a marraige with a military member to a civilian, who are not getting married because they are in love or because they want to spend the rest of their lifes together, its a marraige to which the military member in most case is able to move off base into town receives B.A.H. (Basic allowance for housing) and in most case their "spouse" does not recieve and of this money or just doesn't know about it. As for the civilian or "spouse" he/she recieves all the benefits the military provides to the dependants of military members, these benefits include Insurance (tricare), scholarships, child care, job placement, family support programs, and more that I can not think of at the moment. So do you think its right for our military members to use the system to their advantage?

covenant or contract marriages should be totally banned as, what becomes of the people once the contract lapses I mean you cannot just sign your emotions on a paper

The thing is that you have to prove that these folks are getting together for such reasons. They could lie and how would you find out the truth with they get a regular marriage license and certificate? The military doesn't have the man power to check everyone out.

i have a friend in the military and he married on of my other friends who is a lesbian... he pays her 1/2 of the extra money he gets, and from what i understand it's alot. i don't blame them. if there was a way i could get some extra money every month, and not have to work very hard for it i'd do it.

I don't agree with it, but this is not a new thing. When my ex was in the military (back in 1998) this was going on and I am sure it was happening before that as well. Military members will also sometimes get married for the same reasons though. They get double housing and both parties win. My fiance told me that when he was station in Ca. that people would go to Vegas for the weekend and get married on a license that has their marriage expire in 2 or 3 years. Long enough for them to reap the benfits then split up w/o a divorce.

wow I can't believe that is going on, that is so wrong, cuz they are taking advantage, I don't think they should be allowed to do that.
