Do People Still Dance?

Dancing was always a given in my life until recently, and I remember when my friends and I used to go out specifically for that purpose. This led me to the question of how many people still go out to dance. I know that there are a couple of popular dance shows on TV, but they are mainly in the style of ballroom dancing. So, do you ever go out just to dance and have fun? I came of age in the era of some great dance crazes and couldn't wait to learn all of the latest ones. Nowadays I rarely hear of anyone going out to let their hair down and dance 'til all hours. In the words of a popular song, "I Hope You Dance."

I think the art of dancing has slightly faded away, due to modern technology and people just losing the interest, although having said that our local college were having dancing classes there each week, salsa is still popular too. But I am not a dancer, I get too self conscious, I was dragged onto the disco dance floor, more so shamed into it by our friends she's in her 80s and was dancing away so how could Wolfie refuse? Dancing has never interested me to be honest, and my parents or none of my relations are dancers so it wasn't anything that got took up.

Where I come from, wolfie, nearly everyone danced. Nobody wanted to be a "wallflower." It's a great way to communicate.

I can't dance so going out in public and 'letting my hair down' would be a very bad idea. Chances are I would end up bumping into everyone and just have a completely bad time. If you are going to search for me through the crowed start with the bar I'll be hitting on the bar tender woot woot! haha

That's what I'm talking about, wickikitty. It used to be that if you didn't know how you learned. I remember my brother asking me to teach him when he found a girl he wanted to impress.

Oh, weemam, hand jive! I think that's absolutely great. I also love the Twist. I'd probably still be dancing if I had someone to dance with.

I was at my Aunt's 70th Birthday party this Saturday and this topic came up after watching some of the older folks boogie on the dance floor. I remember when would go to a club and if we heard a certain song we'd be rushing to get on the dance floor. I guess times have changed. People are more concerned about lookin cool instead of enjoying themselves. Getting up on Saturday and watching Band Stand or Soul Train used to be so much fun. Once again. Times have changed. Lloyd

They certainly have, lloydanthony. In my day it was nothing for us to get on the dance floor and dance until our hair was wringing wet.

Not very much my friend. About a year ago I went to our local pub where a band was performing. I couldn't help but boppin' in my place...shakin' my head, and other bits as I squawrked the words out loud. A couple of young girls were looking silly as they threw themselves about the dance floor happily so I thought...I can do that and I joined them. I had a great time using muscles and things that have been atrophying from lack of use. All in all about 6 of us got up to strut our stuff. It gave me a true feeling of joy to throw myself wholeheartedly into the music and the dance. What's wrong with people these days that they don't want to participate these days. Most of the youngsters will get up at a wedding but not the 40 yr old and up. Pubs and clubs....forget it. No one wants to boogey. As for letting your hair down and hearing then feeling the rhythm of the music take hold of you....what stops folks from being a part of it all.????

The last time I went out to just dance, I was in highschool. These days when I go out to parties , there are very little dancing going on.When I was in highschool, there was great music to dance to. I am so out of touch now I wouldn't know if there are any good music to dance to.

I went to some dances in high school. Since then, I have not been out dancing.Maybe one time. I would love to go dancing,as that would be wonderful fun exercise. It is more than movement, it is connection to the music.

I love to dance. Grew up looking forward to the school dances and going to see bands and dancing. Its funny, as a younger person, it was about going out drinking and dancing. But it changed to not so much about drinking later on. More of just enjoying the dancing. We took a ballroom dancing class years ago, it was really fun!

Isn't dancing fantastic? I used to love to dance and I know lots of people still do - my youngest says she doesn't need dance classes as she is already too good at it! lol I wish I could say I dance still but it is hard for me to walk a little and way to painful too dance! The last time i danced was at my nieces wedding last year - and then it was a very slow shuffle around the dance floor with my eldest son and THAT was a wonderful moment! xxxx

Me and my girlfriends STILL go out dancing- we love to hit the clubs in the Atlantic City, NJ Casino's- as they have a good atmosphere- and everyone that goes- seems to go for the same reason- to dance. Dancing is a form of expression to me and I couldn't imagine not going out and doing it anymore ;)

[Well, I think that the days of the Electric Boogie are behind us but I have found that people still dance. The younger, up and coming generation have made raves popular, when there is all night music and dancing. Also, I have some twentysomething friends that still go clubbing and dancing. Dancing has changed but it is not a lost art. For myself, I prefer to dance with my broom or my dog. My advanced, thirtysomething age makes me a bit too old for the rave and club scene. That's a party I just can't keep up with. I am from the Achy, Breaky generation...

I dance for a Bollywood Dancing Club that runs near to me, it helps me with sef-confidence - I'm the only guy in the group, and it takes some courage to dance in front of people from a different culture, who often ridicule the Bollywood choreography and music. That said, it's all good fun

Oh yes they do. I do. I dance anywhere that I can just for fun and as a good form of exercising. My boyfriend does not really dance, he can, but I have to get it out of him.

Dancing and swimming are the two best exercises and of us can do. Years ago we used to have alot of dance places around my home town. Now, it has become a lazy "sports bar" town where everyone sits around watching sports and getting fat! lol really! I'm just fixing to find a place and have a "Dance Party". Keep Dancing Dance With Me Boogie Shoes wow, I'm in a Disoc mood!

HI wordwise1 yes, as a matter of fact in the crowd I hang out in, just going out for a dance is a regualr thing, infact a weekend without it seems quite out of place.
