Does anyone actually think those reality shows are real? Even those few that are not scripted have guidelines to follow. There can't be much real behavior when the caneras are there to remind all involved thaat millions of people might be watching.
I love a reality show they label as NEWS! What do you think of so-called reality TV?

Great point! Don't we often refer to TV as an escape from reality? I don't watch soaps, either, because I don't want other people's problems added to own.

I've watched some of them and actually I can't stand them for the most part. I don't know who thought them up but most of the ones I've seen are totally stupid. I'd rather watch a nice sitcom then them things.

Perhaps that's it...they are geared towards kids. If so then they should label them as kids shows although I don't think I'd let my kids watch some of them...they'd give them too many outrageous ideas. I remember one in which a woman used a guys toothbrush to clean the toilet...she was mad at him. Another where they ate gross things like beetles, or had to lay in a box with snakes all over them...I can just see a kid trying some of this and ending up in the ER. No thanks, if I ever have kids they'll get raised on stuff like Tom and Jerry.

Who's keeping the ratings so high? I can't find anyone who likes them, who's older than 12 or so!

Maybe they think we're all really stupid. But I want to know how they get such high ratings that they can remain on the air!

I personally like watching some of them just for entertainment value. I dont really care how real they are. I mean obviously how people react to things are real because you can't know if someone will get angry or not by what others are doing.

I'm really trying to see your point, but I think I'm too prejudiced against these shows to appreciate anything in them. I'd much rather appreciate the creativity of a well-scripted show with fine actors.

i agree with you . some so called real programme are fake indead.
i once heard people say a mate-matching live show, a friend of my friend was invited to join to find a girlfriend though he's already married and a father of a baby. gee ! the reason is the director can't find that many people.

hi cobra,
i do not watch reality shows .. it is as though they are overdoing everything .. it is not the same as day to day life at all ...
Now days even some games show are overdoing it like "are you smarter than a fifth grader" ... the participants are really over acting
It is better to watch some sit coms
cheers

You're so right, my friend. These stinking things need to be replaced by something creative and interesting. Why do the ratings remain high enough for them to stay on the air?

I admit it I am a reality show junkie but I tend to stay away from the celebrity reality shows. They are so scripted that it is really annoying. Come on tell me that they there is a camera waiting for Gene Simmons to get a phone call that wakes him up in the middle of the night. I usually tend to stick to shows like Amazing Race, Survivor, and Big Brother. I know that the editing makes the show but at least I can watch them without yelling at the tv.

People who have been on the shows you mention have admitted when interviewed that, if there's not a word-by-word script, they're given guidelines to follow. That's not terribly real, is it?
