What do you think of rockers who listen to other genres (ex: piano, jazz, pop)

I'm a guy who's known in school for knowing rock music much, especially being in a band. But I wonder what if everyone knew that I listen to jazz and piano and acoustic and stuff. I think the topic implies to everyone. Especially for those hardcore-looking dudes who listen to Mariah Carey. Hehehe. Or even those soft and cuddly looking girls who secretly listento goth music or heavy metal. But for me I usually listen to rock music (from heavy metal, post-hardcore to alternative metal). So the thing is that I like listening to REGINA SPEKTOR, NORAH JONES, JOHN MAYER and even LEONA LEWIS. Their genre and their songs really give me a good feeling. Well anyway, I'd appreciate hearing your ideas! And sharing us your secret-genre like me would be very useful! :)

I was once known as a 'rocker' too. And I didn't like being tied down to one genre of music, so I just let others assume away. It just amazes me how people like to categorize everything. There's nothing wrong with listening to all kinds of music. I think it makes a person ten times as interesting. I'll listen to John Mayer then turn around and listen to a song Ludacris. I like being eclectic.

Listening to more than a couple genres of music is just fine. I'm considered by everyone who knows me to be a rocker because I like to listen to rock, punk, and metal (mostly from the 80s). But I also love other genres of music. I love pretty much any kind of gothic music (my favorite goth bands being The Cruxshadows, The Dreamside, and The Sisters of Mercy), I have a great love for industrial, EBM, electronic, and any crossover genre involving those three, and I can never get enough trance. There are so many different kinds of music I love that I can't think of right now.

I honestly believe that ANY TRUE artist be it a musician, painter, sculpter etc etc etc appreciates ALL styles....It not only shows a genuine love for their art but also gives on a rounded and well balanced view and knowledge if that makes sense... As far as music i listen to..I dont have any "secret" genres..I listen to everyting but classical orchastra (Mozart/Bach/etc)...the reason I DONT and CAN'T listen to it is because that style is a trigger for me so I avoid it at all costs..oh and I'm not a fan of opera either since I just find it annoying LOL..country isnt my top fav by any means but I can listen to it and actually enjoy artists like Pasty Cline and Hank Williams Jr etc....

Hi Rob... Well, that's great if you actually listen to all genres of music. It just shows how much you appreciate music plus it shows that you are open to listening to different types. I actually find it interesting to meet people who seem like they only listen to one type only to find out that they know as much music as you do. I get a kick talking to my friends who are also broad listeners. People are surprised whenever they find out that I listen to anything from classical (Bach, Pachelbel etc.) to Alternative, Rock, Pop, R&B... you name it, I listen to it. Haha. As long as it's not the ear splitting kind of satanic music, rest assured I'd have listened to it already.
