I cannot believe I have been able to maintain a star rating of 10 from the month after I became a member here at MyLot (in February) until just yesterday, NOW Im down to a 9--I find this amazing! With controversial topics in the air, from Barack Obama vs. Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, and one I brought up myself, fur. Let me tell you something, If I disagree with something somebody says in a discussion I am going to let them know. Does that make me a Monsters or in the words of one responder, on my "High Horse"? Can we be real here, Mylot is a PUBLIC forum available to EVERYBODY to voice their personal opinions and if they have them, facts, I have run into many discussions bashing Barack Obama for things that were not even followed up with facts--so I shared the facts, and last but not least my personal opinion on the matter, that is what we do here---Dont We??? Politics is something I feel very strongly about and very rarely do I hold back, but I do not see my opinions as destructive enough to get a NEGATIVE RATING-- I was NOT Derogatory, did not use inappropriate words, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Is this the forum where you listen to yourself speak and you only stand for those who agree with you--[i]and I'm on my High Horse?[/i ]This negative rating thing is too often abused and its unfortunate but it will not stop me from being me and speaking firmly about what I believe in, you can follow my discussions by going to my profile (namely my Fur discussion)

Welcome to myLot. There are a lot of people who are looking for sympathy as well as like minded people. You get stoned for being different. Some people never grow up. MyLot has a lot of people, some of which, have too much time on their hands. I wouldn't go through the trouble to give someone a negative rating. But some people do. Personally I could care less. As you can tell by my 60 star rating. It is actually up from 4. LOL I try to present things from another perspective. Some people do not want anyone to stray from the script. But when information is presented from another perspective sometimes it enlightens the topic. Isn't that how countries stop wars?

You made me feel so much better, I did get attached to that rating thing but Im still doing my thing at mylot, still talking, cant stop me from talking, I just hope in the future either mylot curbs the abuse of this rating system or gets rid of it, or people see the value of a meaningful debate or just dont talk politics--its still a give and take if you agree with me or not. I find it a little chillling though just how many 'like minded' people I've found--hard to find a Democrat.

There are a lot of democrats. But they hide because of the star rating. See what it does. It is a shame. Most people who post in politics have a bad star because of the warped system. They are either for you or against you. I think why bother if you are not going to speak your mind. It is a waste of time if you don't. No one wants to read "Yes thats nice." to everything. There is a variety of people on myLot. Unfortunately not enough of them want to show it.

I got stuck on a number 7 star and I don't know how to bring it up more. Anyways, there's nothing wrong with us disagreeing with other peoples comments with our discussion. That is why we are doing discussions because we discuss topics it's either we agree or we don't. We each got our own opinions on that. If the response was so rude then I guess that should be negative but if it's just a normal disagreement then I have no worries on that. It doesn't make you a monster if you disagree..some people just don't understand. When I have discussions I am open to all the facts given out no matter if I like it or not.

Wow, I understand your frustration, but it's almost funny that you are upset about having a 9. I had a 9 for a long time. I was probably going to hit 10 soon. I made the mistake of posting in a thread started by an anti-Bush zealot and in ONE DAY my star dropped to 6. In the same post she referred to President Bush as an illiterate moron and accused him of masterminding the 9-11 attacks while framing Osama bin Laden and al Quaeda for it. I pointed out that it would take an evil genius to concoct something that massive so he's either illiterate or a genius. Needless to say, she didn't appreciate my logic. She proceeded to stalk my threads and rate me negative on everything she could while adding snide comments to every post I made and every thread I started. Since then my star has been as high as 7, but is currently a 5 because I post in political threads and you will consistently see that when people disagree with you, or you use facts to prove them wrong, they will simply rate you negatively as their final parting shot. It's sad, it's wrong, but it happens. I could easily identify 3 people who have done it to me consistently, but there's nothing to be done about it.

I have never seen any evidence of that being true. The people who rate me negatively have no trouble maintaining an 8 or 9 for their star counts. I don't rate them negatively because I don't play that game. Unfortunately it means they get a free ride.

I was told time and again that rating someone negatively only hurts your own star rating but what if its more than one person, or a cliche of people, then its rather easy.

Taskr36, I have to disagree on one point. The star rating does affect earnings. From the FAQ: "The DRS (Discussion Rating System) is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm, so this will help us properly reward valuable contributions to the myLot community." I thought I noticed my earnings drop as my rating did.

Taskr is exactly right. I started out at 8. But since I am not an Obamabot and still decide to speak my mind on what I think are important issues,My rating dropped to 3 in about two weeks. Of course they all say that they don't rate negatively but I don't believe that for a minute. And the people that I encounter on the left all have 8,9 and 10 ratings. Because Conservatives are more likely to debate an issue rather that just mark down the star rating. My only problem with these folks is that they won't even debate me. They just call me names and then hit my star and run. At first it bothered me but then I considered the source. My response has been to + rate my friends who are also rated 5 and below. BTW please check back on the response you made on the discussion "Palin meets her first world leaders in New York" You and two others jumped to the wrong conclusions on a statement I made there. thanks

Ever since i came into Mylot I have made my greatest effort to give good quality answers which ANSWERED the question asked or topic at hand and I have maintained a 10 since February when I started, I am what you would deem a "leftist or leftie", call it what you want, how can you just judge whole groups of people for reasons that do not even make sense. My star rating only fell when I began debating controversial issues like politics going into these discussions whole heartedly believing I could have a productive debate with no hard feelings--man did I find it to be a BIG disappointment.

You shouldn't flag people negatively for having a different opinion. However, if they cannot express that opinion respectfully, they are not behaving as a good MyLot member. They are different issues, certainly. But, your "star" rating really isn't important. If it is important, I don't like Palin either. This woman could be President if McCain were to die in office. To me, that's really pretty scary. There are some advantages to Palin becoming President. For example, Bush may no longer be considered by me as the most incompetent President we've ever had. (In my humble opinion, I must say.)

I didn't know about that. All I have observed is that when I comment something which is very flagrant in some discussions I lose a star rating. Anyway, I don't care about that rating.

hi if all of us would just bother to read all of mylot rules and info we would see you do not rate someone negative for simply not agreeing with you, this is a mylot no no. to do that is to be vicious and thats not playing fair at all.the only time to hit minus is if someone just insulted you by calling you a nasty name or by flaming you, that is the only reason for hitting minus.a personal opinion is just that and is to be respected b y democrats and republicans, you dont like obama fine, dont diss me because I do, I dont like McCain and I will not dis you because you do. that is your opinion and you have a right to it. lets grow up people. dont spread hatred here.

revella noitvanella hi be careful as mylot doesnt like uncalled for remarks and are you kidding me could be thought of that way. I know for I tried to show my opinions on facts that showed smoking was not good for you, and some smoking trolls managed to minus me overnight from 10 to a 6, but I fooled them and am now at eight. I do not minus anyone at all, if I dont like what they are doing I just go to some other place. But some just enjoy seeing people with 10s and 9s come down to 6 with a lot of malice, people who did nothing wrong at all. this is a shame. mylot did do some things about it but never enough.Just be sure when you disagree you do not also disrespect the other person as he or she has a right to his opinion whether or not you agree. in other words dont call them a moron for not agreeing or a dimwit or whatever, just do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Thanks for your remarks, I have thought about it myself and I know I get a little too passionate about topics and now that I know how things work here on mylot I will definately take that into account in future discussions. If dont want to be another one of those that get frustrated and leave mylot for good because I do see the value of mylot and I have no intentions of leaving even if it means a star 4 rating but at the same time I can relate to those who would get so frustrated as this.

revellanotvanella somehow those who love to rate minuses did not read mylot rules carefully . we are not to minus someone soley because their response and opinion does not agree with ours, only minus if someone uses abusive words to you or flames you, not because you disagree withthis person. someone is minusing every one who has an opinion that is not their opinion and this is against mylot rules. we should not lose star ratings because we give our own opinions,we should not have to justify our opinions as we all have the right to our own opinions and to have them respected.please those who minus indiscriminately do not do so as it hurts all of us.

i used to be a believer of the rating system until the time my star had fallen. just like the same with you, i was able to work out and enjoy the blue star for some time but because there are times that you need to disagree or give a different opinion, people would look at it as something against them. and if you noticed my star, more specially to my reputation, it keeps on dropping but i don't care about it anymore. as you said it is so easy to abuse it so it doesn't matter to me anymore. i know for the fact where i stand and i will continue to disagree when it is necessary and appropriately. and for the star, the system is a failure.

I've answered many discussions which I don't feel like agreeing with and that resulted in loss of my reputation and ranking. As for me I don't give negative rankings to people I disagree with. It's their way of looking at things and who am I to say no to their views.
