Going to the doctor!

After complaining about feeling ill for a few weeks now, and having a couple of days off work, my friend finally convinced me to go to the doctor! I hate going there, it scares me sooo much! i'm always afraid they're going to announce i have some sort of awful disease or perform some sort of horrific tests on me, which is completely ridiculous considering i am training to be a nurse myself!!! So, i booked my appointment and went and got it over and done with, i do feel better now i've been but i didn't like it one little bit! How do you feel when you have to go to see the doctor, does it freak you out too? xxx

Maybe you just had a bad experience before, especially when you're very young that you can't even remember it consciously right now. But unconsciously your mind tells you that something bad will happen to you when you go see the doctor.
It's all in the mind, they say.

I also dont like going to the doctor unless that I am really sick.I make myself sick just thinking about going to the doctor. The doctors here just give you pills and they dont even no whats wrong with you half of the time.
I hope everything turns out ok with you.

I hope that you went on at the doctors OK, I am terrible for going to the doctors. I will only go when I know something is really not right with me. It is not that I am scared just that I do not want to keep going with every little thing and end up wasting their time. I try to cure myself first. Oh and in my experience, doctors and nurses make the worst patients!

Ha ha ha ha ha... that is a funny one. Training to be a nurse but afraid of going to the doctors.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better now.
There is nothing to be fearful about when visiting the doctors. They are people too you know.
When you get sick, it is best to go seek the advise of a doctor. Being sick can be very miserable. Imagine, not able to do the things you normally do. Lying in bed all day and not able to do anything good. Even if you can finally sit down in front of the computer to enter into mylot, it is going to be very tiring to sit and post with the sickness overwhelming your body.
So, going to the doctor is a good thing to do. Get the medicine and recover quickly. Then you can be up and going to do your favorite things without constantly feeling tired.

If you really hate to go to the doctors so much, then you better lead a healthy lifestyle.
No sickness means you do not need to go visit them so often.
Though the annual check up is optional, it is better to make that appointment no matter how you hate to go to the doctors.
All the best to your health my friend.

Depends why I've gone. If it's a simple "don't waste my time man you've got a cold" I don't mind too much. But if it's "bend over whilst I put my rubber gloves on. Oh look nurse you'll not have seen one like this before" then no siree. That's NOT my idea of fun.

Right. You are ill. Fluids are to be kept high. No milk. Light meals, soups (preferably tomato). A bowl of ice cream every now and then. Magazines. TV. Mobile phone - well you are young. Laptop/PC? Anything else. Oh yes. Clean damp flannel and spritzer spray thingy. Open a window for a little ventilation. Have I forgotten anything. Of course I have. TEDDY!!! or other soft toy. You must take regular naps too. Throw those ciggys in the drawer, you don't need them. That'll do for now. I'll look in on you later. Don't have too many friends round. They'll only distract you and you need to be resting. XX

haha i don't think anyone likes the "bend over" variety of visits!! lol I get worked up if i'm going to have my blood pressure taken, it's completely irrational! I think i'll live, not feeling great and slightly concerned but am thinking it's just a nasty virus that won't go away until i admit i'm ill and have a few days in bed, which is exactly what i'm doing now!! thanks for you concern mister!! xxx

Sweet or a mug? She can't do it herself because her printer has run out of ink. "Oh Daddy. If you see a new cartridge. I'll pay you" Yeah, course she will. LOL.
How am I. Well in the odd moment when I haven't been worrying about poorly nurses in Preston I've been shopping, dishwashed and had a nap. So not very busy really. The Boss has gone to a hen night so heaven knows what time she will roll in. I'm here playing with myself. No, that's not what I meant. LOL. The Tudors. I'm so old that i can remember them first time round. LOL. I hope that you enjoyed it and that your dreams are especially sweet as you dream of wotsisname. Pizza means that you are feeling a little better. Get some fresh air tomorrow. Not too much mind. I'll check with you in the morning. You will probably not be awake. But I'll send a message. Night night. Sweet dreams.

now that is just a typical attitude of most health care providers.. trying to save someone else's life but are afraid to take care of themselves and go for consultation. ever wonder that most of the medical professionals are afraid of needles but they themselves are trying to convince anyone that it is just nothing? sounds so familiar to you? and well, in my side, i just had no problems with it, i would say that it is far better than keep on wondering what's going on exactly.

I know you're right, i still can't help getting freaked out by having to go though!! I haven't got any problems with needles at all, they don't make me nervous or anything so i'm not really sure what it is i get so worried about, i just really really don't like it!! am a rubbish patientm no fun to be around when i'm ill at all!! hehe thanks for the response!! xxx

patient's are always like that coz i believe that aside from the illness they had, they also have felt this sense of abandonment from family and felt isolated in some time. i don't have any problem at all with needles, so many times i even volunteered to have me as their arm manikin when newbies are coming in for IV insertion practice. i actually have done it many times, lately someone pricked me at the brachial and it infiltrates and she was so shocked to see it ballooned like the size of M&M's.

Haha it can be tough to get a line in on the brachial, but i can imagine, i'm always so scared of hurting people when i'm doing any intervention, i can remember taking a surgical drain out a few weeks ago and it was a lot longer than i thought, it just seemed to keep coming and coming, the poor lady didn't know what had hit her, i was white as a sheet by the time i'd finished!! lol You're right i don't think we always realise how hard it can be for patients to spend a long time on a ward, it must be a very lonely feeling! xxx

Oh i'll be alright i know!! I don't think i have anything serious but they couldn't tell me anything there and then, just took some blood. I just wondered if anyone else get a but concerned about having to go, it's not really something that affects my life in any huge way!! hehe thanks for the response, happy mylotting xxx

You will be fine, but isn't it anoying that these Dr's go to school for years and all they seem to be able to is order tests. I went to school for 4 years to become a nurse(by the was congraduations on your choice of carreers,I'm sure you'll make a fine nurse,But a very very bad patientlol) My husband is a nurse and I was a nuse until I became disabled 3 years ago, It's the best job in the world. My husband and I worked at the same facility, like a small rural emergency room that treats everything, well we would play this diagnosis game and of course he would be right more than I,but the funny thing is we would be right more than the doc.! But nurses and nursing students know too much for our own good and ever time we go to the dr. we think we are going to die.lol you are going to be fine future nurse!!!God Bless

I admit that doctors have saved many people, but I still do not believe them. I always ask them a lot, because I want them to tell me what's the matter about my body, not just give me some drags to eat. I always read the instroction of drags carefully, because I am doubtful of what doctors told me.
Being a doctor yourself may be the best way for persons who hate doctors. But that're for ordinary disease. Go to the doctor when you get a big problem. They know what you shloud do after all. But still, you can go to several different doctors to confirm whether what they said is right.

I think the generally they are very trustworthy and my fear is irratiational! I think you have every right to ask lots of questions though, after all it is you body so it is your right to know what is going on exactly! Thanks for the response! xxx

Hi Munchkin,
I always visit the doctor if I feel strange and I think that something's not right! I'm not like a hypochondriac or anything who is always worried about whether I will come down with something, or whether I am coming down with something! I think it's always good to be safe though and if you are thinking that a visit to the doctor is necessary, you should go. It's always better to go and have nothing wrong with you than to find out that you paid a visit to the doctor and found out that it was too late! There may be embarrassing things that you just don't want to see the doctor about but I guess it just has to be done. Good luck on the Nursing career by the way. Andrew

You're right it is always better to be safe than sorry, it doesn't mean i like going any more though! hehe I will always go when i think it's necessary but i'll usually wait to see if it's not something that will sort itself out or if i can sort it out myself!! You;re right though sometimes it just has to be done! Thanks, am hoping it'll turn out to be a good career choice!! happy mylotting! xxx

If you make it as a nurse and I'm sure you will, let me know where you're stationed and then I will pretend I'm ill, go into casualty and you can nurse me better!! :)Andrew

There was a time i would hate going to doctor's as well. Then due to a prolonged illness i had an overdose of them. It in a way also gave the confidence to go through all the pain and fear knowing that it was better for me. So now if i need to see one i will, but if it comes to treating me like a guinea pig then i stay away.

Munchie,
I see a doctor, in fact a lot of day everyday. lol..
I work in a hospital and I have gotten used to stuffs like this. I see so many patients, doctors....everyday, scheduling the appointments and helping them with their proceedings. But when it come to myself or my close ones I really get nervy.
I am glad that you are good now and managed to meet the doc.
You take care, hon.

I have tried seeing a doctor once in my life when I had my bad allergy and I was scared that time being the first timer and I was like 18 years old that time!
This time, I guess I am matured enough to face it, I will be more relaxed ...But, I haven't seen a doctor for along time, hope not ever! LOL! I am trying to take care of myself and health!

I hate going to the doctor's too. I think the main reason is that at the surgery I used to belong to the doctors were always really short-staffed and pressed for time, and they rushed the patients through and generally treated us badly. They seemed to resent their patients for coming to the doctor, and they didn't really even want to check out any symptoms we had! So that really put me off.
Now I belong to a really nice surgery and all the doctors are very sweet and take time over their patients, but because of my experiences at the other practice I still have a really bad feeling about going to see them, and I'm worried about wasting their time!
Good luck with your nursing training, sounds like a very good career choice!

My old doctor's were the same, they didn't have time for anyone! My doctor now is a lovely lady, she really takes time with people and takes an interest, every time i go (which isn't very often!!) she asks about my nurse's training, it's nice of her to remember considering how many people she must see! Even that doesn't stop me from dreading it though, i either think i'm completely wasting their time or i'm going to have to take loads of time off work for some drastic disease i didn't know i had!! it's daft really!! thanks for the response - i sure hope it turns out to be a good career choice, i'm certainly trying my best!! happy mylotting! xxx

Usually I do not have a problem going to the Dr. but I can understand how you feel. If I get really sick or very often I feel like there might be something horribly wrong but I think that is because more and more people seem to be getting cancer, etc... I guess it is better to go the Dr. and have them find something then waiting and finding something too late. Feel better.
