who is the best american president?

well, it's not about obama an mccain. it's amongst the all presidents of the united states.
as i am not an US resident, i have very limited knowledge about presidents of the united states. i just read the book titled 'famous presidents of the united states' by marcia borie, being published in 1963 (an old book, huh?). based on the book, i think george washington is the best american president.
but you guys who live in US maybe (i mean must be) know much better. so, 'my fellow american', who is your favorite presidents of the US.
(anyway, this discussions is not for US residents only , so, pls feel free to participate here wherever you live). thanks in advance for responding

I am not an American, too. In my opinion, George Washington is the best American President. He made USA to be independent. Besides, he wasn't selfish at all. He created a very good system for USA and it leads USA to be flourishing.

yes, you are right. even in the early times, the presidential residence was their own private home, not supplied by government. in his farewell address, made public in 1796, he said:
...the unity of government which constitutes you one people is also now dear to you. it is justly so, for it is a main pillar in the edifice of your real independence, the support of your tranquility at home, your peace abroad, of your safety, of your prosperity, of that very liberty which you so highly prize...

I agree, George Washington is the best for me. I remember the anecdote about how he told the truth -no matter what they consequences were. He also represents what's good in America, liberty, truth and equality. History will always look up to him as the greatest American president. All the best.

For me, Washington is the best... He have the hardet challenge because he is one of those people who started USA... and as we all know, there is no easy start especially when they are fighting for their freedom againt Britain... (i love history..lol)

that's right. when he was the commander-in-chief of the army of the united colonies, he didn't command a perfectly trained and well equipped army. even the book said that the 'army' washington commanded was actually a pitiful assembly of patriots. there was little money to pay them and food was scarce.those who had makeshift uniforms soon found themselves barefoot and in tatter - but nothing could make them stop fighting. the unifying force that kept them going was george washington.
while, you know, in that time england was the largest empire in the world.
