Democracy is rule by the people. It implies both populat participation and goverment in the public interest and can take a wide variety of forms.I believe that a liberal democracy is best in that it balaences the principles of limited goverment and the ideal of popular consent. Its defining features include constitutional goverment based on formal, usually leagl, rules, guarantees of civil liberties and individual rights, institutionalized fragmentation and a system of checks and balaences, regular elections that respect the principle of 'one person, one vote; one vote, one value', party competition and pluralism, the independance og organized groups snf interests from goverment, and a private-enterprise economy organized along market lines

hi,The true meaning of Democracy is TO THE PEOPLE..FOR THE PEOPLE..BY THE PEOPLE..In countries like India the democracy is more than defined in constitution ...over freedom to people..leading to unnecessary discussion for every policy ruled by government..over responding on human rights..people will talk more on their rights..but they are not feel their responsibilities..

You gave the best response tag to the right person "sooner" sure told it like it is.. Democracy is all that and more but for me it means "all people are created equal, and all people have a voice to speak freely, and live as free people...
