What is your favorite pattern to crochet?

I am really not sure as to which pattern I like to crochet more as I am just learning and have not mastered learning any stitch but that of the single and chain. I do like the way the granny squares look though and how they are very versatile so therefore I am sure most of my projects will revolve around the granny square as soon as I master how to do the stitches required for crocheting a granny square and an afghan.

I have never made granny squares. I really think I like the shell stitch. I think it is so pretty for afghans and scarfs.
