Are You "Adult" Enough To Admit....????

That you like watching movies that are designated for children?
Now I DO love watching serious drama type movies, comedies, adventures, romantic types....but I seem to have a leaning toward watching movies that are classified as children types of movies, especially if there is an element of the magical or fantasy element to it. Maybe it had something to do with growing up watching the classic Disney animated movies....Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc.
I think I bring this up, as just recently a gave myself a few presents of some DVD movies..my local movie theater sucks as far as showing a lot of popular movies. For instance, now every prior time a Harry Potter movie came out, they DID show it...well when Harry Potter and the Phoenix came out they didn't...grrr..So figured, okay when the DVD movie comes out, even though it will be sight unseen, I'll get it...Needless to say I love ALL the Harry Potter movies and including the last one (Phoenix)--though they, the writers did hack off a lot of stuff that had been in the book that would have been great to see. I also bought myself The Golden Compass...GREAT movie...I'm finishing off reading the third in the trilogy of His Dark Materials, The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman...but when I saw the trailers for The Golden Compass knew it would be up my alley
Then just last night, I watched The Last Mimzy....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie...I was originally only going to watch maybe only half but wound up watching the whole thing...uh, don't ask what time I went to bed...(uh, the birds were already starting to chirp...hehee)...I'm hoping to eventually get the book, oh, and I would LOVE one of those talking Mimzy Rabbit toys...uh, any idea how much they go for? Yikes, over $100.00 even on ebay!
I still love to watch Disney or animated movies....I bawled like a baby with The Lion King...Thomasina (an old movie)...and on and on.
So even though you like to consider yourself a sophisticated, grown up person....do you find you get a real kick out of watching kiddie movies? Which ones? If you're a parent...do you make the excuse that you're "forcing" yourself to "endure" a kiddie movie....when in reality you WANT to watch it?

LOL - Give me a good kid's movie over anything else any day! I'm a classic movie addict, but I'm also ADULT enough to need to indulge in the genre of kid's movies that were so important to my childhood, and help me stay in touch with my inner child. And the only time I can get the hubs to sit through a movie or go to a theatre is if it's a kid's movie! You would swear there were a gang of five year olds living in my house judging from my DVD collection! ROFL

Not me, I LOVE kids movies - even if I have to pay full price to not see it in a theater full of kids.
Gotta say, saw Pirates, Harry Potter and Batman at matinee prices without small children - went to a theater that only lets the little ones in on certain days of the week. AND I got a meal!

Gee, they don't have that at my local movie theater. I remember when I did see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire there was this young girl with her parents....she yakked throughout the entire movie....she was telling her parents the plot of the story...sheesh

I am the same way. I love a good movie even though I don't see enough of them. If I sit around and just watch TV I get so sleepy. When I got my cat over 14 years ago I watched the movie the Lion King and I fell in love with Simba and I named my kitten Simba even though that was a boy's name and she is a girl. I am not a big Harry Potter fan but I do like a lot of the "family" (kid) movies.

Nope. I revel in it. In fact, if you check out the history of fictional entertainment, you'll fine that a large part of the "fantasy" was written FOR adults, actually, though it amused children as well. Look, e.g., at "A Midsummer's Night's Dream!" Or other stories about the faerie, or gods & goddesses!

I could never understand why even Lord Of The Rings was considered a "kids" book. I didn't read it until my late High School days then re-read it shortly after the movies came out...Yet, the actor who played Aragon, Viggo Mortensen was inspired to take the role after his ELEVEN year old son recommended he take the role...yikes could never imagine reading that at eleven....LOL

Although you would certainly have to force me to watch the movies you mentioned (the newer ones) I do enjoy a movie aimed at children once in awhile. I tend to drift towards silly animated movies like Cars or Meet The Robinsons. If the movie looks good to me, I won't care who the movie is aimed at

Yes I can admit to not have children living in my home yet I still watch certain Disney movies, not cartoons, but movies that take me away for a couple of hours from all the horrors going on in the world.

Old yeller was very sad so was Bambi. The first moviue I ever saw was Wizard of Oz and the witch scared me silly. To this day I can still remember her!! BTW I loved 101 Dalmations but I am not sure what difference is in the "live" version?

The live version....meaning not a cartoon version and it came out in 1996 and had Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil and also Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson
Hehee....thinking of the Wicked Witch...I once met Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of oz...she was in a production of The Devil's Crucible at the Shakespeare theatre in Connecticut in which my grandmother, mother and I went to see....this was around in the 1970s....I met her and asked for her autograph...and where did I meet her? She was on the same bus my mother, grandmother and I were on going home from the performance that night! I think she got a real kick that anyone remembered her as she was quite old by then

Hi. My name is Carryl. And I am addicted to kids' movies. LOL I am actually WORSE than my kids. If there is a good animated movie out, I will be the first to suggest going to see it. I watched The Last Mimzy so many times that my kids tried to hide it from me. Heck...I even watch the saturday cartoons...that's how bad I am. I think my favorite movie of all time is The Aristocats. Gotta love Thomas O'Malley and his struttin' attitude. Hahaha

Ah-hah...so you loved The Last Mimzy yourself? I'm DYING to get one of those Mimzy rabbit dolls..heck...sometimes when they had some special "toy" one could get at Burger King I'd go get the Happy Meal just to get the toy....LOL...Did you ever see "Oliver"? and like you, i think Disney animated movies are great.
i guess i just loved animated movies when i was a kid and i never out grew them.
i did have to endure the same movies over and over when my kids were little, but they're all grown now so i can't use that excuse anymore.
i just love good animation.

yes sir! I love watching children's programs. Nowadays I'm into Fairy Godparents,Jimmy Nuetron, Kim Possible, Totally Spies,Mr. Bean and Sponge Bob Squarepants. I used to watch Bugs Bunny and Friends, but I don't know probably I get tired of repeated shows. I am also a fanatic of Anime', I remember watching Dragon Ball Z when I was a kid, then now, I watch Naruto, One Piece, Chobits and many more. At firstI would nag my young sister and brothers when they spend too much time watching cartoons but then when I tried watching with them I discovered it's not bad at all.
I guess no one gets old. There will always be a kid in us.

Hi! I am totally adult enough to admit that I love kiddie movies and shows
I love Pixar movies most especially Toy Story, Cars, and Bug's Life. It's fun to watch them because the animation is really good and of course, the stories are nice. As for cartoon series, I really love The Fairly OddParents and Spongebob. Aside from they being kid-oriented shows, there are also perfectly blended funny adult jokes in them. I don't know if the kids understand them though
I kind of feel sad for my classmate / friend when she told me that her brother always tells her that she is already old enough to stop liking children's shows. She likes the character Winnie The Pooh a lot and of course, she loves watching the show. Too bad her brother's view about it is like that. I hope she gets to express her love for cartoons despite that.

Well, I do like SOME kids' movies. I've bought several for the kids and watched them myself a few times before they're around. I don't like the sickly sweet ones or the Disney stuff like Bambi, Pocahontas, Little Mermaid, etc. but I don't have a problem with stuff like Spiderwick Chronicles, Water Horse, Golden Compass, etc.
I sometimes watch the kids shows - Fairly Odd Parents, Jimmy Neutron, Raven, Suite Life But Spongebob and Barney make me nauseous.

Spiderwick wasn't TOO bad. There were some plot holes that kinda bothered me but it was watchable.
Unfortunately, the other movie has Jim Carrey in it and he's on my "Vomit List" along with Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis and Mike Myers. Don't mind Shrek, (my favorite character is Puss and I LOVE Antonio Bandaras) but the rest of Mike Myers' movies are just terrible.

No... I don't like children's movies.
But it seem that a lot of people do...
Which is a bit of a puzzle to me.
On the other hand...
I still enjoy re-reading for the nieme time some children comics like "Asterix and Obelix" or even "Sylvester".
And I am sure that quite a few adults would question my sanity over that... lol
Animation movies have become popular in the last decade... but I have not watched any of them. It is just not my thing.

Sheesh what a fuddy duddy... Just kidding.
Don't you have even a mild bit of the kid in you? It's what keeps a lot of us young...as that TV jingle song..."I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid."

But who said that adult can not watch children's movie (though the same is not true vice versa...). You see, I'm 35 years old and still prefer to watch the children's movies then the so called, adult's movies (but it may be slightly different with real 'adult' movies...).
I think a child always remain there inside all of us, whatever be our age. Only thing is, up to what extent we allow that child to come out. For me, I always remember my childhood with lot of fondness and in spite of all the problems (my parents were from a lower income group family), I still want to return to my childhood days. But I know this is impossible, so I try to relive those moments by watching children's movies.

Yes I am adult enough to admit that I like watching some movies made for children. It depends on the movie and if it is made for intelligent children and not just silly. Still some adult movies are silly.
I liked the Harry Potter movies. They are a good example of intelligent stories made for children. I enjoy watching some animations. The Japanese are quite good at making animations and there are some very unusual ones coming out these days.
However, I don't think of myself as sophisticated and I am not a parent. If I watch a movie made for children it is because I want to watch it. Sometimes it is just nice to watch a story that is nice and simple and happy.

I can't agree with you more that fantasy movies are a great escape from a lot of today's negativity. Well I'm not far from a movie theater but they don't show too many of the kinds of movies I like...so usually wait to get the DVD when it comes out...and yes, sight unseen most times...though watching trailers on the computer often helps me decided if a movie is up my alley..LOL

I love the Lord of the Rings. They were a fabulous trilogy of movies. It was one of my all time favorite books. I read the Chronicles of Narnia as well but I have not seen the movies. I do like seeing movies but we live in the country and the nearest cinema is about 45 k's away. It just seems like a long drive late at night on a dark country road.
I tend to wait for movies to come on tv these days but I love escapist fantasy. I think it is good for the brain to get away from reality sometimes and just have a little bit of fun.

Yes, I am like that I just love the old Waltz Disney animated movies, I love Bambi but its too heart breaking, and I love Cinderella, Snow White the Jungle Book though that is not Disney Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast and I also love Song of The South, Peter Pan and many more, but I have no children so I can't make excuse for watching them and my husband thinks I'm nuts but it better then watch adults movies with all adults stuff and voilence.
