Does one multi-vitamin a day really make a difference?

I used to take a centrum everyday until a nurse instructed me not to. She said I am young enough to make my own vitamins. But I thought to myself, shouldn't I do it now so that when I am older I'll still be strong? More like a preparation for the future.

Definitely, yes. I take this multivitamin pill called 'Betonin XT' which is available in India. It really makes a difference and gives me energy when I feel very tired. There are times we want to take rest but can't due to responsibilites we have. At that time vitamins really help us. It is not necessary to take it everyday. Taking it whenever we feel weak or tired will do. It is also better to take it during day time when we have to work a lot. It is not really useful to take it at night time as we are only going to sleep and it will delay the sleep.

I know that getting the vitamin from foods would be the best possible way to get what I need, but sometimes that can be hard. Working long hours keeps me away from home, and I cook for myself when I can. I am starting to make the effort now to get the essentials in. How do yo do it?

It really depends what vitamin you use and how much of it is absorbed by your body. take a look at this link about a new breakthrough from the company I get my vitamins from. http://www.kidk.com/news/local/27246939.html Great information. I have a lot more energy and am sick less taking this vitamin.

Unfortunately, vitamins don't accumulate in the body. If you make more now, they will just be excreted as waste. However, humans get most of their vitamins from consumption. Without the proper intake, the body will not produce the necessary vitamins for survival. The common wisdom appears to be that taking a multi-vitamin can't hurt you and probably will help you. Most people, old and young don't consume enough of the nutrient rich foods to give their body the optimum vitamin intake. A multi-vitamin picks up the slack. It's not an excuse not to eat healthy, but helps if that is what you are trying to do.
It should be noted that you can have too much of a good thing. There were cases of people taking massive dosages of Vitamin C and when they stopped they contracted scurvy (caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C). A multi-vitamin a day is fine, but if you decide to take additional individual vitamins, it would be best to consult with a physician.

I am against with the advice or your nurse. I am a pharmacist and based on my knowledge, multivitamins is not harmful to the body. Instead, we badly needed it. Eating foods alone can't complement our body needs. This is the reason why multivitamins are manufactured to be prescribed to people young and old. To supplement the vitamins and minerals we lack, that he hadn't acquired from the food we eat daily.
