The longest place name in the world
Two Central Hawke’s Bay Council workers, Dennis Goodley and David Blackledge, stand in front of a sign they have just fixed which marks the world’s longest name. The place is on Wimbledon Road, Porangahau, and the name means ‘The place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as landeater, played his flute to his loved one’. It refers to the captain of the Takitimu, Tamatea (also known as Tamatea-pokaiwhenua).
I happened to see this while surfing through the net. When I saw the Picture the first thing that came to my mind was what??????????????

There is quite a few places with the longest name. There is one place in North Wales, England.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch
This translate as "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave" in Welsh, has long claimed the fame of having the longest name in the world.

I've heard about this one. I think I remember Naomi Watts saying it during an interview. She said it perfectly, of course. That's so awesome.

I have never been able to pronounce it!! My cousins can but thats due to them living in Wales!! All I can say is 'gogogoch'!!! lol

This is interesting to me. I like hearing about offbeat names of cities and locations. I don't think I've heard about this town in New Zealand. I find it fascinating because of the obvious complications, lol. That's can be a lot to learn when you're young. Anyway, I think it's pretty cool.
