This is the way it works..The government gives you X amount of money to do with as you please, the money they give you has to be what your home & property is worth at the time..and you home has to be paid for,in other words you have to own your home,it has to be paid for in full....So for example if you have like maybe 2 acres & a mobil home, this is an example & you own it free & clear, the government will come and estimate your property, what it is worth, say for instance your place is worth like $ 46,000 dollars ,well they will give you this amount of money to use as you wish and you never have to pay ot back..The thing is you must live in the home ..Now you can live in your home & use this money they give you to do with whatever you wish..Say you want to remodel your home ,buy a new car whatever you choose to do with the money...No strings attached ..The people who own this home can live ther until they die,if the wife dies the husband can stay in the home until he dies are vise versa...Now when the owners die ,the heirs have the right to keep the home IF they pay back the money that the government gave them,or if they choose not to , then the government then owns the property....They say this is a way for retired people to get money & still live in their home free & clear until they die...This is a government thing & letters are being sent out to home owners...What i would like to know if what do you think of this ? Is it worth it? Some people are taking advantage of this offer..So what do you say? Would you do it?Have you recieved any of these letters.......?????????

Hi slickcut,
Yes I have heard of reverse mortgage and it has been implemented over here too.
I think it is a good move for those in the later years of their life.
By applying for reverse mortgage, they get a fresh stream of income that will possibly sustain their mundane needs if they are not spendthrifts.
Of course this would not work ideal if they have dependents or if they want to leave the house to their descendants.
Nevertheless, it is an option for those who need it.

I am considering it but i do have chilren but they all have fine homes & would not need this after i am gone...If i did this i would use it for improvements to my place & i am not a spent thrift...I would never do it without talking with my children.I think all my childern would want after i am gone is all my personal items...Their father was killed AND THEY WERE NOT INTERSETED IN ANYTHING EXCEPT his personal items & they would be able to clean out this place with what they want after i am gone, but i have not made up my mind as yet...
