Have you ever burned something...?

While cooking something, like rice, or some sauce, or just any dish, have you ever forgotten to put off the fire because you were doing something else? I was writing here, and ironically under the interest, "cooking" when i smelled the rice burning. I forgot to simmer the fire, and was so caught up writing about cooking. It's good that only the bottom and sides have turned dark brown, and there is still enough "unburned but with smoky smell" left to eat for dinner.

It's fairly rare for me to burn something, I usually am able to pay attention but I fell asleep while I was cooking pasta once and the smoke set off the fire alarm. That woke me up =P

oh sure, I think it happens to everyone. Just this morning I was fixing my daughter breakfast. And my toaster waffle got a little more done than I would like. I don't think I'd be able to eat the rice with the smoky smell. While I hate to waste food, it would be trashed.

I am still trying to decide whether to cook rice again and just throw the burnt rice or not, because the smoky smell doesn't seem so good after all.

I have done this before trying to do something else while cooking. If I come to the computer while cooking I forget that I have started something on the stove sometimes and it gets burnt. I have learned that when I cook bacon I just need to stay in the kitchen and pay attention, if not I will surely burn it as I have many times in the past.

Right. The kitchen demands our full attention when something is cooking. Or else, the kitchen itself might eventually burn.

I have burnt boiling water I was boiling water, and forgot that I was boiling it. All of the water evaporated out of the pan, and the pan started burning. I did not smell anything, I guess because there was nothing in the pot. The pot burned so bad and became so hot that the handle was warped. I guess that is where "I can't even boil water" comes from

Funny.:) I made "evaporated tea" before. Dried tea leaves were left in the pot to "drink".

oh yes. but, not while i was posting at myLot, haha. well, there is a product called "Smoke" that comes in a bottle. you could have pretended this was a new way to season. i think it's for grilling? or, making your food taste like it was? i think it's pretty ironic that you were actually on here posting under cooking when this all happened !

Ironic, indeed. And guess what, i was writing about a dish i was cooking for dinner. And that rice was coming along with the dish, until... "Smoke," you cannot hold it in your hand, and you cannot also hold it in your nose. It was really a funny experience while writing here.

Have I ever Burnt anything?...Hmmm theres a question I really dont need to answer BUT seeing as I'm here.. ummm... GUILTY! Mrs Teamloud and I invested in a new Barbeque last year.. $800 worth if you please, The family had 2 or 3 bbq's from it until the day the wind came... The day of the "towering inferno" we had prepared a fair amount of meat and spuds etc to cook but the wind was blowing in every which direction possible. Eventually it took to blowing into our porch where the barbeque was "parked" and as the wind got stronger it blew the flame from underneath up over the burners and basically set the whole barbeque on fire! I dont know what the kids were moaning about, I mean, whats a little charcoal in your food?... MORE FLAVOUR!I SAY! well.. they still disagree to this day with me, but rest assured good reader I WILL return, the day of the BBQ assassin is not yet over! I can still not understand why today I still have the direct dial number for our local fire service loaded on my cellphone? Hehehe when it comes to barbeques..Smoky the Bear Loves me! hahahahaha

Quite some time ago I burned a cake. I mean it was so bad it was charcoal black. There was nothing to salvage of the cake. I had fallen asleep on the coach and my husband and son had come back from Kentucky and when they walked in the house the house was full of smoke. When my husband opened up the oven smoke was pouring out. When he pulled the cake out it wasn't a cake but a big round piece of charcoal. That was a long time ago and I haven't done it since.

I have burned rice till it was a black cakey thing glued to the bottom of the pot. I did the same thing other times with other things. I now have to remember to watch the pot incase things burn. My latest burn scene is bread. I toast bread in a pan and sometimes, too often, it turns black. What a scene !

Yes , and it was actually stupid because I was in a hurry to have lunch cooked as I have to work at 1PM. I turned on the rice cooker, yes rice cooker, and hurriedly headed to the shower. Halfway through showering I smelled something burning and couldn't think of the source as I was indeed using a rice cooker. The smell did not go away. When I finished, I went to the kitchen and saw that the rice burned because I forgot to put water! Needless to say I was not able to eat lunch at home that day.

I just burned the noodles once warming it up. I kept it on the fire to get warm so that I could have it for my dinner and then sat on the PC. Once I'm on the PC I tend to forget everything else. After a while I could get some burning smell and then It struck me oh damn!!! the stoves on. I ran and put it off but the noodles were burnt by then. I had to order food from out then and have. But to my bad luck all the restaurants had closed by then and I had to have biscuits and go to sleep. I was starving at night Lolzzz.. Next day morn I got up and had a heavy breakfast.

The worst thing that I have ever burned was homemade chicken and noodles. I had spent the better part of the day making them and left them on the fire for just a few minutes. They were in a big metal stock pot. All the noodles were burnt on the bottom. It smelled absolutly awful. I had to throw them all out.

Yes I have burned dinner before I will forget something is on the stove and the pot will boil dry and then the food will burn. It is really easy to burn cooked carrots when you are boiling carrots in water you have to keep adding water as it seems to evaporate and I have forgot to check them before and they boiled dry and burned the carrots.

Yeah from time to time. I actually slightly burnt some garlic bread last night. I had it on the grill and the top of it got slightly burnt. It tasted pretty good though. I dont think anybody minded. It was really pretty tasty. I would not repeat it however. I do love my garlic bread. I burn popcorn from time to time also.

I burn things alot! Especially when my boyfriend comes over and he's trying to talk to me (when he says something shocking to where i have to stop what I'm doing and lecture him) lol. I try cooking too many things at once...like tacos I have to cook the meat and the rice, and frejoles (beans), and make the torillas. So I need to learn to either ask for help or do a little less but in more time instead of doing more in less time lol.

I quite often forget my cooking stuff when I am in front of computer. I usually burn meat :) Once, when I was pouring hot water out of the kettle while watching a funny movie, I burnt my hand, instead of pouring the water into the glass. It was horrible, ubrearable pain. Now, I am much more careful when I use hot water. However, I still forget about my cooking when I am busy with computer :)
