I think he might have been a little too young for a lip ring but it's done. He had an awful time for about a week--swelling, pain. But no infection. Not to mention that he really started taking care of his mouth. Rinsing, brushing teeth three times a day, cleaning after each meal etc. That's a nice think. He's sixteen and he's just the sweetest hard rocker, bang your head type of kid you'd ever like to meet. He asked for a tatoo also. I told him he'd have to wait till he's 21 or 18 if he's moved out. How old would you let your kids do something crazy/unique?

I don't agree with the lip ring. Why he done that to his lips are your sure it is safe? Are you sure no infection will occur? But good thing he now started to be hygienic with his mouth. But why will he wanted to have a lip ring in the first place?

then remove that ring when he's asleep... i really wonder why kids this generation are very wild and adventurous. maybe he wants to show his bravery by having a pirce in the lip... what a mess having a pierce in the face...

Things are much different today from when I grew up. Rarely did you see any kids with piercings or tattoos. Now they all have them. I would have to say I would make them wait until they are old enough to get it themselves. But it kind of depends on what it is, I might go with 16.

My two sons had tatoos at age 15. Now they are grown up and still are getting tatoos,But my granddaughter age 18 has a nose ring ,ear rings, lip ring, and has her toungue pierced. She now wants a tatoo but I said as long as she pays for it she can do it.

My son got his ear pierced last year he was 12, it was something he wanted and I finally let him. My girls have ears pierced and that is it. I personally have no piercings other then my ears so maybe I just dont see the big deal in that part. You can take it out and not notice it really.
I have a tattoo and so do both my oldest girls, 24 and 20. My 17 year old girl will be getting a tattoo around Nov. for her Christmas present from her 24 year old sister, with my consent. My reasoning is it is a personal tattoo with her daughters name in it. It took me a long time to agree but she will be 18 in a few months so now or later I dont see the difference. On top of that she will be getting it where if she has a regular shirt on it wont show. I approve of the tattoo too, it is unique and pretty just like her daughter.
So I guess in the end my answer is, depends on the kid as to what age, maturity and depends on what they want.

My youngest son, 17, has both a lip ring and a tatoo = he got both without my approval :( I have always said when he's 18 he can do what he wants but until then NO NO NO, so much for doing what Mom says :(

I don't have a kid to tell you the truth. But like you said they could do what they want when they are 18 and up, because at that age they are almost adults. I would like to get another piercing in my ear on the top but right now money is tight and I'm kind of scared. But it sounds like he's taking really good care of himselve and that lip ring.

I have had this same conversation with my 15 year old son. He is also after having a piercing but we both agreed that he has to wait till he is sixteen and finished school before he has one done.
He is not allowed piercings at school, as he is in his most improtant year, the last thing we want is him getting banned from school.

Well coming from a mother of four daughters. I have had my toungue pierced since I was 17 years old. I still have it done now. I also got my belly button done last year. I have a total of 8 holes in my ears. 4 in each one. Also I have three tatoos. My children have already asked for tatoos and piercings. I have told them when they turn 16 years old we will get a piercing. My oldest is getting the top of her ear done at the end of this school year. So I guess it just depends on the parent and their views on what the child wants. Happy MyLotting!!
