Pies, from scratch or frozen? / myLot

Do you like to bake pies? I do. I never buy the frozen kind. The kinds I usually make are apple, cherry, lemon or chocolate. What kind of pies do you like and do you buy them already made or do you make them yourself?

I prefer making my own, including the crust..I have made many, but the favorites around here are the raspberry and pumpkin pies..

I prefer them from scratch but I'm not very good at making pie crust. I will often buy the ready made pie crust and make the filling myself. If anyone has a really good pie-crust recipe, please share it with us!

This is the pie crust recipe I use. For a 2 crust pie - 2 cups flour (I use self rising flour - if you don't use that kind add 1 tsp salt) 2/3 cup shortening (heaping) I use Crisco only about 2/3 water - just enough to make it workable - not too wet Cut the shortening into the flour til crumbly. Add the water just until it's easy to roll out - don't work it too much or it will be too tuff. Divide in two parts and roll out. If you only want one crust - use half the recipe.

I have never bought a frozen pie before. I will sometimes buy an already made pie, but it is very rare. I prefer homemade from scratch pies, but I will sometimes cheat and buy a crust. My all time favorite is Black Raspberry pie.

I made two pies today, haven't made a pie in ages and ages. The children wolfed it down, the other one went into the frezzer. I made mince turkey (as it is buy two lots for £3 in Tesco's), stuffing and onion in it. It was very yummy. I made two pies which will do us two meals cheaper than buying four samll pies down the shop that will only d oone meal. So I saved all round and I got to watch afternoon telly while making them

I like the ones that my grandmother makes from scratch, but sometimes, I will just go to Marie Calendars and buy one. They make real awesome Black Bottom pies.

I never buy frozen pie either. I only make one type of pie though and that is a mixed berry. It's really simple to make your own pies, we just don't eat a lot of pie or I would make it more often.
