Heres a Thought...Food Prices!...

Is it just me or do you find the cost of living through food prices going through the roof? My Partner and I usually plan for a roast meal on the weekend, normally on a Saturday Night, as it gets a good feed into our 3 kids. Our Roasts usually consist of Meat (Go figure!) Potato,Cauliflower,Broccoli,Pumpkin,Peas,Yorkshire Pudding,Gravy etc etc. The prices here in New Zealand however of some of these ingredients are going through the roof! I have to state that I think the prices of food today, especially food groups such as those stated above that are the main ingredients of a good meal, are nothing short of pure unadulterated bullcrap!! WE, as a family as an example. love Broccoli... todays price? $3.69 NZD for a HEAD of broccoli? WHAT THE HELLS THAT ABOUT? Lettuce, another mainstream foodgroup here in NZ $3.99NZD for a lettuce that My fist is Larger than?I mean SHEESH, prepacked lettuce is cheaper than that, and fresher also. It seems really sad to me that a bottle of Coke is way cheaper than a bottle of milk, when potato chips are way cheaper than greens such as lettuce etc etc, Where in the hell is the balance? I have 3 children... I would like them to be able to grow and make for themselves the right decision when it comes to food groups and the right food to eat. Whilst most of these prices are either demand driven or Government driven, I have to say that I OBJECT! Why should my kids pay the price for a Government that cant see beyond it own nose. I dont know if many of you have been keeping up with events down under, but lets just say that in my mind, they make George.W that fella look like the retorical angel! Go Figure! Do you have the same problem as such? Do you find that "Crap" such as coke/cola potato chips etc etc cost WAY less than those essential food groups that we as parents REALLY need to get into our kids? I have to say that I can deal with difficult kids, that comes with parenting, WHY, however, should I also have to deal with a Government that gives a damn for NOTHING but its own members and give not a damn for those of us that were foolish enough to vote them into power. They say that Hindsight is a wonderful thing... boy, were they right! That aside, Whats happening in the rest of the world? are your food prices, especially the good stuff, like greens etc etc such as lettuce, brocolli spiralling upwards? Are you finding it harder to make your weekly or monthly income stretch to meet your needs? Or is it time for us all to put our foot down universally and say NO ENOUGH IS INDEED ENOUGH!...and then even...will THEY ever listen? Personally, I think not! From myself, The Author, to all of you (The Readers)please tell me that I'm wrong, please tell me that my dearly beloved Government (NOT!)will not only provide for me in my old age but my children also, taking into account the amount of taxes they wil l have paid, not inclusive of the taxes that I have paid also. Do you think I should be foolish enough to beleieve that? Or do you think, by my post above, that I'm being somewhat realistic?

The food prices today are terrible. I know that I've definitely seen a difference between the prices of food now and the prices of food from last year. At school, I usually buy some food, as does my partner so we can sometimes make meals or have some nice filling snacks when we're not eating at the cafe as that food gets old after awhile and because they don't always have food that we like. For instance, my partner came into a lot of apples and brought them to school. I'm not a fan of apples alone. I prefer to dip my apples in a caramel dipping sauce. Well, that used to cost only $2 and some odd cents for a nice sized tub of the dipping sauce. Now, it's almost $4 for one small container of it. It costs so much money for us to even get a small package of meat or something so we can make a nice, small filling meal for us on the weekends. I hate it. I hate how we spend so much to get so little anymore.

I have to agree with you on everything you have said. Every week we struggle with what remains of each paycheck (usually around $25 American Dollars) to try and buy a weeks worth of food. There is no way to do it. We are always struggling when it comes to purchasing food. The milk, eggs, and bread is what drives me crazy. A gallon of our milk here costs almost $5 American Dollars for a gallon. The baby is suppose to be switching off formula to milk over the next few weeks and while the milk is cheaper he can go through a gallon in 2 days. A can of formula lasts about 3 days. It's almost impossible to buy enough nutritious food to last weekly and I can only imagine how some of the others feel that live on monthly checks. Things need to change or it will be a fast downward fall for all of us.
