What is the Longest Time You'd Been Late in Your Class?

Today is the scheduled Midterm examination in our school. My only student was supposed to take her exam at 10 as her schedule but arrived at 10:27 instead. I was quite annoyed because as an educator, I really don't like my students to be late more so that I do come to my classes on time. I just cannot give her a special examination because she wasn't sick..I let her took the exam because she really wanted to, obviously she wasn't able to finish it. Have you been late in any of your classes? For how long? THANKS ALL for sharing!

The longest time i have been late has been just by about two minutes. I always try to be on time but sometimes I just wake up too late but I do everything I can to make it there. I think your student did not see the importance of her exam or she simply slept for way too long and by the time she woke up she was already late, but if the exam was that important she should have called in sick so she could try again.

The longest time I was late for class was 1 hour. But it was not really my fault because I thought classes start at 9am but when I came, my classmates had already started at 8am and even finished a quiz. Thank goodness the teacher was kind and let me take the test. There was also one time that I was late for an hour because what I'm aware of is that we're going to have class (actually an on-the-job training) by 2pm at this place. Then at around 7:30am, my groupmate called me up and that we were supposed to be at another place at 7 or 8am (forgot which). No one told me about it. I was quite pissed off because I was only following the schedule that was posted on the bulletin board. For a third time, I was late in class because of heavy raining. When I arrived at school and some of my classmates around 30 minutes late (I think), about 3/4 of the class already took a quiz and the teachers won't let us latecomers to take the exam. What can we do? It was really raining so hard. I think those teachers were unfair. Even though they say "how come many of your classmates are here?" It was inconsiderate of them and each person comes from a different place. They were generalizing students. My fellow latecomers were annoyed too. During high school, I cannot understand why some of my classmates were terribly late. Classes start at 7am and some would arrive at 12:30pm. I think they were lazy, that's why they did that. I hope they changed their ways during college. Have a nice day!

Hi mj, I am very conscious about time and I never recall any moment when I was late in any of my exams or classes...I mean, I was active in different organizations before and if ever there are conflicts about meeting and classes, I always inform the professor ahead of time! I am just lucky to have a Parents who really discipline us to be time conscious!

I don't recall ever being late to class. Of course that was 100 years ago and they clapped us in irons for being late. But seriously my parents, my mom especially, were big on punctuality and it seems to have sunk in.

Its very bad that to all students that when they come late during their exams but only during exam time students get excited and be left out in a hurry burry state by not knowing what to do and obviously they get late to exams , they get up early and revise it till the last minute finally while getting ready to school at the last moment may make them to come to school late teachers must reduce some 5 marks to make the child realise that being on time to class is a good discipline and they can get enough time to write all their answers

I've been late for classes before but never by that much. I was late for my statistics class this semester by about 10 minutes because I ran into an old roommate of mine and was talking to her before I had to run to catch transportation to the other part of campus. Once I got to the other part of campus I had to find the classroom and make sure I was in the correct building before I went into the room because I didn't want to be in the wrong place. I'm never late when I have a test though. When I have a test I make sure to be on time. I want to have as much time as I'm allowed to take the exam cause I never know how long I will want to take it.

I am taking my MBA now and I normally come in late on my Saturday class since I run from work (11p - 8a) then class 8a - 9p. This has been set for my prof not to expect that I would come in on time on a saturday class. They are fine with it.

In the winter, when the bus didn't come because of snow, where I come from that's not an excuse to stay at home. So we had to walk to school. Just three miles, but still. We usually missed the first period because the bus was scheduled to arrive at school just about ten minutes before the bell rang. It takes ten minutes to realize the bus isn't coming, lol. And then of course walking is slower than riding the bus. Anyhow, we were written up for being late due to snow and the bus not coming. But if you did not arrive at the same time as your neighbor they added that you intentionally were slow in order to miss more school. If any of us would have missed an exam. Tough! If we would have been late, no extention to give extra time. You either made it or you lost out. And believe me, we saw to it that we were in class on time whenever possible. Those tardies made their way on our report cards, too, for our parents to see when and why. My parents would have raised hell, if anything but snow made me be tardy. But kids today are spoiled. They think they can get away with anything, especially in school. Parents just don't make them take responsibility anymore for their own actions.

I can understand your place, even I am not an educator, but as a student myself, I would feel really disturbed if someone rushing to the class because of the lateness while the lecture is going on. However, in the exam I need more concentration and those people just ruin it in the second they came into the class. Personally, I have been coming late to the class too. That was because I got a nasty accident in the road. But my lecturer was very strict. I am not allowed to go to the class because I would disturb the other people. But instead, she gave me the chance, because it wasn't all my fault, the accident, so she gave me the other class hour, and I can still have my presence.

I tried not to be late when I was still at the University. I liked sitting up front so I would be less distracted so I try to come in a few minutes before classes start. I've been late a few times. But not for more than 15 minutes unless I've informed my professor beforehand if I needed to go to an appointment. Sometimes, I had trouble finding a parking spot so that takes a lot of time, even if I get to school earlier. Sometimes, I just don't feel like attending the class and I guess dragging myself to get to that class takes that much time.
