Breastfeeding in public!!!!! Acceptable or Not??

I am a new mommy and I also exclusively breast feed my son. Needless to say I do it wherever and whenever he is hungry. I am very discreet about it, but I can't help but notice how uncomfortable people get around me when I do nurse in public. Why does our society find it acceptable to walk around half dressed because it is "in style" but they find it unacceptable to feed your baby in public? Our breasts are there to feed our children!!!There were some recent comments made in response to the cover of a popular parenting magazine showing a nursing child/mother on the cover. The reponses in my opinion were very ignorant and basically blow my mind that ANY woman could veiw breastfeeding as "unacceptable". To those of you who don't agree with nursing in public and think that us mothers need to go "hide" to feed our babies.....When is the last time you ate a meal with a blanket over your head or in a smelly dirty restroom??Let me know your views on the subject!!

It is acceptable, if people cant handle it, than its there problem. a mother taking good care of their children is a pleasant site to see.

I think just out of courtesy for those who don't want to see the boob, it needs to be discreetly covered. Whether a blanket or the shirt made to cover most of boob.

I think that it's OK if the mom is atleast trying to make it private...like covering with a blanket.

It doesn't bother me but, if I were going to nurse a baby in public I would do my best to be descrete. That way I wouldn't offend the people it does bother. I agree with you about the way people dress. It is crazy. I do my best to avoid confrontation though. Congrats on the baby!

It doesn't bother me at all. I did too when mine were younger. I was very discreet and no one really knew that I was doing it. When the baby is hungry, they want to eat.
