Can true love and patience change a person from bad to good?

Hey friends! This new topic comes from the deep thought that I gave to the kind of responses you guys gave me to that earlier one - Can a hardworking girl and a lazy boy have a happy married life?. To be frank, I am that hardworking girl and it's hard for me to leave the guy for otherwise he's a nice person (though he's too lazy). I am still looking for ways to make my relationship work. And hence, I ask this question.............Pls answer this query of mine - Can true love and patience change a person from bad to good or maybe good to better? I ask this because I have heard about wives and girlfriends having shown great hope and faith in their relatinship. They could finally make their drunkard/wife-beaters/jobless/irresponsible husbands realise their mistake and change their life course for the better. Does it really happen? Do people change if given true love and understanding?
