Have you ever bought something home in a box and have in your hurry to get the item up and running broken it, whilst trying to unwrap it or assemble it?
Have you ever received a present, Christmas, birthday or leaving present for example and as soon as you got it out of the box you have broken it by accident, either by handling it wrong, dropping it or clumsily breaking the item?
Have your children been so impatient or so hurried at opening their presents that they have broken the toy or present in the box
Or trying to put up/construct/build an item from brand new you have snapped or broken a part?
Any funny stories or incidents of brand new one minute, broken in the next minute!

I haven't experience that wolfie, some of the gifts for me are clothing, jewelries! But, in the past during our exchange gifts, I remember my close friend showing to me a nice picture frame which she bought for my Sister and accidentally, she dropped it, she was so sad and she got another one for her, good thing it happens before the party and she got time to get another gift!! LOL!

I agree...it wasn't good for her to spend another "peso" to get another gift!

Our niece's boyfriend gave us a sculpture while we were in British Columbia visiting my brother-in-law and sister-in-law on our way to Alaska. Well we put the sculpture in the luggage, and got on the plane to go back to Winnipeg. What happened, is that we should have carried it on so it was broken in two pieces. Did not want to repair it, after all it just was a modern sculpture so we put it in the garbage. It is a good thing it was not a Royal Doulton figurine or one of those Hummel figures of the kid with the dog, or I would have been really upset.

Hi Wolfie,
I can't recall any to be honest.
I normally run through the instructions because I feel that even if I can figure the things out, I would miss some easter egg functions. So I might as read through the manual if there is a manual.
Normally, I wouldn't rip something apart lol... what's the hurry? Even if it is something I have been waiting for, I take my time to slowly open it.

The thing that I think of when I read this is sunglasses. I remember one summer that everytime I would buy a pair of glasses, I would either lose them the first day that I had them or I would break them. I know that I put them in the seat once and sat on them. The third pair that I bought I dropped out of the car when I got out and broke them too. Finally, after about 15 pair I decided that I was not going to have glasses that year.

Well, it did not happen to me, but to a colleague of mine. He bought a sort of mini vacuum cleaner, Chinese made, to clean his computer. He showed it off to everybody, and even used it on his computer in the office and went around showing off the dust collected to everybody who had time to tolerate him. The next day the thing refused to work. Gave us all a good laugh!! LOL
Cheers and happy mylotting

On my birthday, one of my friends gave me money in an envelop instead of a present. The note didn't have a center piece from the middle. It was really funny. First, I thought he intentionally did this and kept the middle note piece with him. I didn't call him and didn't even ask how to spend such note of money which is incomplete. I put it in bank as banks accepts these kind of currency. I never broken any present and didn't receive one too.

Hello wolfie. I am happy that I have never met this kind of case and will never expect to have one case from happening because it would be very disappointing if it were to happen.

hi wolfie 34 oh yes a few years back after our christmas party I was walking across the street to Larwin Square when the bottom of the sack in which I was carrying a present vase with a lovely
plant of lemon grass in it. Of course the beautiful chinese vase
which my coworker had give me smashed into a zillion pieces, so there I was dodging traffic, picking up ther mess and running across the street to Larwin Square. My skirt was sopping wet, and my lovely plant was still intact though. So I got a fresh dry sack from Vons, put my vaseless plant in it, then when I got home I replanted my lemon grass in a vase I already had with plenty of water for it to grow in. Also one year way back my hubby and I put together a new bike for my son. when we got through there were several washers and screws left over.Fortunately the bike did not break down so I guess these parts were duplicates. lol.

I have done something like that but instead with something a whole lot more valuable, what I did was I opened up the box, took out the plastic peanuts and noticed something that I would have never expected or hoped for; A broken toy that I had wanted for so long. Now hey life isn't that great but hey I had always wanted that toy and I thought I had finally had it until I noticed it was broken. My life sucked until I got over it but I am fine now and I have remembered that event for many years to come.

Hi Wolfie, I have never broken something that was brand new as I opened but only this morning, my daughters 22nd birthday she opened her present from me and we both automatically thought it wa broken. We read through the manual, tried to play the dvd and nothing, emailed the company who had sent it and then she read troubleshooting at the back and realised that we hadn't realeased the mechanism catch. It was a lateral thigh trainer and boy are my legs aching now, it tells you how many calories you are burning at the same time as exercising too. I am aching in places I never knew I had muscles, in fact it is a pain in the ar*e LOL. Ellie :D

Not such a funny story. I bought some dishes from Fedco when it was still in business. They were deeply discounted, four sets of four place settings, the last four boxes. When I got it home and unpacked it, one of the small plates was broken. But the price was so good, I didn't care. Plus I didn't use the small plates that much anyway!
I'm pretty sure at least once that my kids have broken a toy trying to get in unwrapped. Don't remember the details any more though.
We also bought a chandelier at Fedco or maybe Builder's Emporium. It was their going out of business sale and by the time we assembled it and found that there were pieces missing, the store was out of business. Fortunately the manufacturer was just down the street and they gave us the pieces.
Recently we bought a wicker set with a glass table for our backyard. The glass for the table was broken. The stupid store wanted to make us bring back the whole set when we really just wanted to get the broken part replaced. We were able to talk them into it though. We had already assembled everything and it would have been way too much hassle to bring the whole thing back.
