is your tv or your computer your babysitter?
is your child a couch potato obesity is ramped in today's society parents do you take your kids to the playground do they get any physical activity at all or do they just sit around and watch tv and play computer games all day long the tv and computer should not be your babysitters because the obese kids see all the food commercials and ice cream and want that for dinner but you as parents have the power to stare your kids in the right direction it is like the staring wheel of your car you can move it in the direction you want it to go you parents you have the power to stare your children s lives parents the biggest influence in your kids lives is you but if they see you eating junk and sitting on the couch watching tv then there isn't much hope for them get out and walk and make healthier choices of foods make the effort parents our kids don't have to die of high blood pressure and diabetes what you put into your family today will give them a brighter future for tomorrow it takes time and effort to raise a family but once you put in the time and effort you will be better and happier and healthier people!!!! so get your family of the couch and walk!!!!

As a parents, i give my baby a time for watching tv about half or an hour, then take him to the playground where he can enjoy physical activities and see lots of people around him and he likes it. Watching tv or playing computer is not bad as long as you monitor, limit and guide your children and explain to them the disadvantages of using it. happy myloting, cheers!

Ever since my son was 2 years old I´ve been anxiously awaiting the day when he would sit in front of the tv, movie, cartoon,or something and stay there for at least and hour! I´ve heard those stories like you say on how bad it is to have our tv´s as babysitters, but that has never been my case! I have this jumping bean that doesn´t seem to sit still for anything! I wish i could be one of those cases that you talk about,of course, not to the extreme of obese kids, with high blood pressure that never exercise or goout. But at least be able to have an hour to properly get ready without those worries of what´s he doing now?

I raised 4 kids...still have one at home. Tv was never big in our house. Often we only had the tv to watch movies on occassion. When I did finally invest in cable tv, they were into so many other things that it was never a big issue...we only had basic cable. The tv is rarely on. When I first got the computer...that was a problem. It was new and they all fought over it. I, myself could see how easily one could get addicted. I set time limits on it, unless it was being used for school work. It wasn't easy but it was worth the battle. If you limit the use of tv & computer from kids when they are young, they will develop other interests and not be so drawn to it as they get older.

i dont have kids yet. but i've seen a lot of kids and you can actually see the comparison.
kids who are exposed to too much tv and computer games have poor diet, poor eyesight, a little overweight, apathetic...on a brighter scale, they are intellectual and techies. they know more about technology and updates. i know some friends who actually developed their communication skills because of sesame street and movies. others are quick when it comes to logic and strategies because of their exposure to computers. however, they miss a lot on interpersonal skills. they end up being shy or act awkwardly towards people.
on the other hand, kids who mostly play with other kids and have other activities have good interpersonal skills. though they aren't techie or up to date when it comes to information, they are most likely to enjoy their childhood. and no, there aren't any cons, only pros. =)
to moms out there, buy the kids playmates not xbox. =) social relationships vs. media & technology. =) you'll see that it's one of your greatest contribution to their childhood.
