Do you favor the use of anti-depressant drugs?

I asked this question because people react differently from the use of anti-depressants. I took in just 3 capsules of Prozac when I had a brief adjustment disorder with mixed depression and anxiety last July 2008. And interestingly enough, I had just dry mouth and larynx for the side-effects. But honestly, I don't want to take in meds for that matter and I prefer counseling, support groups, and vacations instead. Do you favor the use of anti-depressant drugs?

I would say, unless you are suffering from a sever case, doctors should not prescribe anti-depressants for general depression. Depression caused by chemical inbalance is however a different story, in which case you can not fix it your self and need the medication to sort out your emotions, thaughts etc... I suffer from Bipolar disorder so I don't really have much of a choice in the matter. Getting the right mixture of medication is usually very difficult. Eventually you need to compromise between feeling better and the side-effects the pills give you.

In my case, it was just a trial "every-other-day" medication for a week-long. But how did you know that you have "chemical imbalance" in your brain? Did they test your cerebrospinal fluid for it? I'm a bit skeptic about that matter.
